Aspects and Interception - More Coding in Delphi

Aspects and Interception - More Coding in Delphi Nick Hodges - http://morecodingindelphi.com/ Thursday, September 24, 2015 Replay available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjVKtac6bAY Nick Hodges presents the "Aspects and Interception" in this Embarcadero Technology Partner Spotlight. This content is based on a chapter in his new book, "More Coding in Delphi". This is a book all about writing Delphi code. Sure, there's a bit about component writing, too, but the main focus is on code. It's all about how to use the language in the most effective way to write clean, testable, maintainable Delphi code. It covers a variety of powerful Delphi programming features and techniques including Patterns, Threading, Parallel Programming, Aspect Oriented Programming, writing SOLID code and more. Wondering if anyone could shed any light on this.

Wondering if anyone could shed any light on this. Have project in Delphi2010 and I am having a library show up in the map file and in the EurekaLog stack trace error log that is NOT in project, listed in any of the Uses, etc.. Puzzled about this...

New component added - TksTileMenu. Also, just going to get some nice component images made up then I'll be submitting to the Delphi GetIt service. Hope you like the new component!

Bugfix release experimental GExperts 1.38 2016-01-10

Bugfix release experimental GExperts 1.38 2016-01-10 There was a major bug in yesterday’s experimental GExperts release 1.38 2016-01-09. As discovered and reported by Karlheinz Jansen  the Delphi IDE could crash when closing and show cascaded access violations. This was caused by a bug in the handling of dockable forms, which has now been fixed. And since I was at it, I also added the missing icon for the new bookmarks expert. http://blog.dummzeuch.de/2016/01/10/bugfix-release-experimental-gexperts-1-38-2016-01-10/

I have a Windows application that resides on a VPS hosting service. This application is connected to a DB. Data in this DB is updated by uploading files from the users local machines. I was thinking to install on the user local machine a small application that upload the file via SFTP at certain date/time or to install on the VPS a similar application that upload the data from the user server/local machine. Is there a better way ?

Dockable form handling within GExperts

Dockable form handling within GExperts Because I messed up the dockable form handling for the new Bookmarks expert which resulted in spurious cascading access violations when closing the Delphi IDE, I had to revisit that code. And so I can look up the information I gathered fixing that problem, I’m putting it here for later reference. http://blog.dummzeuch.de/2016/01/10/dockable-form-handling-within-gexperts/

Hello guys

Hello guys, As Firemonkey (FMX) applications are custom rendered, when targeting Android phone enabling Developers options's Show layout boundaries doesn't work (it is not criticism, this a side-effect of cross-platform approach adopted by FMX), it doesn't show clip boundaries, margins, etc. Would be very great if there is an option to dissect Firemonkey UIs with transversal support, it could be built-in, some property when enabled would make the controls to show wireframes. Thus the developers are able to know the strict boundaries of theirs controls, the deep of the controls in the UI hierarchy, whether theirs layouts fit as expected. :D

http://www.pgeorgiev.com/?p=1832 This hasn't been updated for a while but I thought it was a good idea. I don't know if something similar was implemented after XE2. It also helps when you have to do unit test. What do you think ? http://www.pgeorgiev.com/?p=1832

Hey guys

Hey guys, Does anyone know whether is there any image caching library for FireMonkey (memory and disk)? And if is possible to load images from the cache and put them in a ListView thought LiveBindings? Thanks guys :D

Hi guys

Hi guys, I need to learn to load data from a database into a TListView and am looking for some some guidance or example code. I'm using MongoDB but it really could be any database but just need some guidance on the process of loading the data into the TListView. Thanks much!

Hello guys

Hello guys, New Feature request - Distinct Property Visibilities (Dual-visibility for Properties) - https://quality.embarcadero.com/browse/RSP-13308 Sometimes you want to declare a property that is read-only to the outside world. Delphi could let us declare a different visibility for the getter and setter of a property. After this new feature, we are able to define properties with different visibility levels for getter and setter, for example allowing public reading and protected writing of properties: Proposed syntax: property Count: Int32 read FCount protected write SetCount; public property Value: string read FValue protected write FValue; The visibility for one of the read or write acessors has to match the visibilty section of the class that the property is declared in. This can be achieved by not specifying a visibility (as for read in the example above), or by explicitly repeating the visibility. Thanks :D https://quality.embarcadero.com/browse/RSP-13308

https://freedom-to-tinker.com/blog/aylin/when-coding-style-survives-compilation-de-anonymizing-programmers-from-executable-binaries/ I often recognize developers just from their source code style and variable naming habits, but it looks like you can recognize developers from their compiled binary with a reasonable accuracy... even with symbols and debug information stripped off. https://freedom-to-tinker.com/blog/aylin/when-coding-style-survives-compilation-de-anonymizing-programmers-from-executable-binaries

Hello guys

Hello guys, New Feature request - Iterators (aka. yield) - https://quality.embarcadero.com/browse/RSP-13341 Yield operator support for Delphi. Using yield to define an iterator removes the need for an explicit extra class (the class that holds the state for an enumeration). With yield support we are able to create an iterator with only few lines of code. It could follow the same rules as the .NET version ( https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/9k7k7cf0.aspx ). Oxygene language have also an implementation for Yield. ( http://docs.elementscompiler.com/Oxygene/Members/Iterators/ ). :D https://quality.embarcadero.com/browse/RSP-13341

Hello guys

Hello guys, New Feature Request - For loop Step statement - https://quality.embarcadero.com/browse/RSP-13342 For loop doesn't provide a step statement declaring the amount by which the iteration variable (foor loop variable) is incremented/decremented each time through the loop. Once the compiler prohibits altering the loop variable, the only workaround is to use a while loop but it increases the lines of code. Should be very good whether we can be able to do something as below: for i := 0 to 50 step 2 do Writeln(i.ToString) Output: 0 2 4 6 8 ... In the same way step statement can also be used with float values, this way you should get the below result: for i := 0 to 50 step 0.25 do Writeln(i.ToString) Output: 0 0.25 0.5 0.75 1 ... And 'i' gets increased by 2 each time the for loop runs, it doesn't introduced breaking changes as there is no violations for the previous for loop behavior, the user still unable to touch the foor loop variable. https://quality.emba...

Why on earth does Andreas Hausladen have to pay for a subscription? Embarcadero should give him whatever he wants - plus the free subscription. IDEFixPack is quite essential for any Delphi release. And I still wonder why this still isn't part of the official release process. https://twitter.com/AndyHTech/status/685138154114908160

Hi

Hi, Is there a way for Delphi/PAServer to know that XCode needs a licence agreement ? After each update of XCode, Delphi complains about the SDK, and I have to launch XCode on the Mac and validate the CLUF before Delphi can download it throught PAServer...BTW why Delphi needs it ?
