  1. Looking forward to see what it's capable of!

  2. Is it better than xcode ? Why ? Awaiting for comparison :)

  3. Alexey Petushkov It's faster and more stable /irony off

    Benefits over xCode would include:
    * Leverage Delphi skills
    * One codebase for Android and iOS
    * Firemonkey

That's off the top of my head.

  5. Do you still need a Mac to deploy?

  6. The point is not comparing Delphi for iOS with xCode. We are building a multi-device tool, same code will work on Android, and works on Windows and Mac today. Different strategy. Having said this, Delphi is more RAD, and you let's you build programs fast. In the Delphi tradition.

  7. Marco Cantù that is correct, that's what make delphi different than other tool, it's native multi platform. But of course delphi won't be alone, there is lazarus, more platform support and free, that is what delphi has to deal with.

  8. any leaked news on how fast other platform will be support?Firefox OS, BB10, WinRT, Windows Phone, etc, i mean i know that this might be the start but will the support for other platform need to wait so long that we will eventually left behind again :D, there will be more oses to be release in the coming year, delphi should be preparing a framework that can be used on other platform as fast as possible

  9. Hope you can make a change on that issue :D

  10. IF Delphi can run under Mac os /linux like Lazarus,so we dont need vpc to develop app

    ReplyDelete
  11. What is vpc?don't think that will happen in near future.the ide is highly
depend on windows platform and the firemonkey is not mature enough yet to
create firemonkey based ide.it is better to release stable cross platform
binary first then use it to develop the ide

  12. Iwan Cahyadi Sugeng  "Virtual PC" e.g. a copy of Windows running a virtual machine on the Mac via something like VirtualBox, Fusion, or Parallels.  A cross-platform IDE would be awesome and go a very long way towards inspiring confidence in their framework, but I agree that it's going to be a long ways off.

  13. Lazarus can build native application under osx/linux/windows ,it's powerful. And Delhi like ,it also can create ios android app,but 3rd components too less

  14. Currently the Delphi IDE cannot run on the Mac, but perhaps they should convert it to FM?  That would be sweet.

The advantages of Delphi over XCode are
    1.  I already know Delphi and FM.
    2. Delphi is more RAD than Xcode
    3. Pascal is more elegant than Objective-C.
    4. Delphi is more cross-platform (not there fully as yet, but will in time).
    5. Pascal is more elegant than Objective-C.  (Did I already mention that?)

  15. After a billion applications in iOS market, Delphi developers now have the tools to build the apps they want to sell. I wonder if there are any original concepts left to be built.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Am I missing a point? Some comments above mention Android. What's got to do with Delphi for iOS? Will Delphi for iOS be able to deploy Android applications also?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Later this year, so the same source for ios can be deployed to android as
    the target platform

  18. On the roadmap , Delphi will  support Android with FireMonkey, perhaps this years

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yeah, because RAD Studio roadmaps have traditionally been worth the pixels that they color.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Anthony, we'll try to prove you wrong... but you know, it is hard to estimate software development times when you are tackling a new platform... and working at such a low level. Android support is expected in 2013.

  21. Marco Cantù you should consider the one think that a lot of developer here wanted, please release just a rock solid system and take your time, i know that development time can't be predictable, please release it in two or more years cycle for major release and release it quaterly for small update or fixed. And one more important thing, you should communicate more often with your existing customer, ie, us :D that is what it is needed to have your customer loyalties

    ReplyDelete
  22. Marco Cantù I'd love nothing more, believe me.  :-)  At least this roadmap isn't as comprehensive and aggressive as previous ones.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Anthony Frazier I know, was teasing a bit. One one site we have longer terms roadmap, but they are subject to so many changes (both external, like new operating systems becoming more or less popular) and internal (hard to predict development times when getting to a new platform)... that it is a struggle to decide how much information to release. Anyway, the roadmap is due to be updated soon.

  24. Marco Cantù I understand, and you're obviously privy to much more information that the rest of us are now, but most people are rational and respond better to more transparency than not. We know that sometimes things end up being much harder than they look and that you can't simply throw more developers those kind of problems to make things happen faster.  Or that the market shifts underneath your feet and upends your previous assumptions.  But I also remembder Delphi 2009, 2010, and XE landing with a loud chorus of "where's mah 64-bit compiler?", never mind the current iOS support boondongle.

I'll still admit to being excited at the prospects for XE4.  :-)

  25. Embarcadero is investing in Delphi much more than in the past. There was a time (before Embarcadero) in which the company was bit in trouble... now things are different. We should probably have a "developers only roadmap" (open and transparent) and a "corporate roadmap" (with little info and no promises of any time). But given this isn't possible, we have to strike a balance.

  26. Sergionn Rad No, EMB doesn't know that bugs exist in Delphi and Firemonkey.  They have no clue. and the moon is made of swiss cheese

    ReplyDelete
  27. We are looking at bug reports and fixing as many bugs as we can, while also moving FireMonkey to new platforms. If you are a software developer, you'll understand this is not an easy task. Any specific QC bug report you contributed and want to see fixed?

    ReplyDelete
  28. BTW in russian forum there is a person who fixes FMX TPath and he is very amused since VGScene's TPath was not buggy and only during conversion to FMX it developed the trait to choke on valid SVG files

    ReplyDelete
  29. OK, will try to follow on those (will add to my bugs list to track and push for..)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Arioch The They are different people. The one who was amused is Sergionn Rad and the one who fixed TPathData is me :) BTW, https://bitbucket.org/Hemet/fixmx fixed TPathData. Maybe it will help somebody.
