I just did this and it worked out great. I got a Win 8 Pro license key for $39.99 (full price will be $199.99), and the Upgrade Assistant allowed me to create an iso that I can install at my leisure. I have no immediate plans to do so.
ReplyDeleteSimon Stuart My only reason to upgrade is that I have to be on top of what my clients are using. None of them are using Win8 now, but I have to be ready when they do, and this was a great deal.
One question: If you follow this upgrade path, is it the basic Pro SKU, or the System Builder SKU?
ReplyDeleteI assume it's the basic that's advertised at the main, official site.
ReplyDeleteHaving just downloaded it, I was curious to see it, so I installed it into a VM. It's certainly not very intuitive and the mixed interface modes results in a confused message/user experience, IMO. Oh, well. It's something new to learn and doesn't seem overly difficult to do so.
Kevin Powick My very limited interest is now even less. ;)
ReplyDeleteBill Meyer Yeah, but if you have to support clients using it, can you pass up a $160.00 discount? And if you bought Win7 after 02 June 12, the discount is even a bit bigger, saving you $185.00.
ReplyDeleteKevin Powick Happily, I do not have clients who are using it, or who want to. I know that will change, but not in the immediate future.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the price to downgrade from Windows 8 back to Windows 7? ;-)
ReplyDeleteNick Hodges The "bargain" price when last I heard it was $125.00.
