  1. It's a useful way for EMBT to make a little extra money.

  2. Kevin Powick Maybe if the question asked if we think the cert has value? ;)

  3. Bill Meyer Little, IMO.  I wish I could find the link, but I just recently read a study detailing what I think many of us already know -- Software certifications generally do not provide a good indication of whether or not a person will be a good software developer or desirable employee for a software company.

At most, they offer prospective employers a criterion by which to speed up the resume vetting process.  However, by doing so, such employers likely eliminate much better candidates.

  4. Kevin Powick Kevin, I agree. I ws making a joke, however, about the difference between "useful", and "has value". The cert can be useful for covering a stain on the wall. But it may have value, if many of your interviews are with HR people.

And I agree, if a cert is a qualifier, then HR will likely skip the better qualified applicants.

  5. so think that the certificate may not have any value for the job search?

  6. Maybe it would help you get an interview for a Delphi specific position, but I can't imagine that there are so many people applying for such positions that a candidate would be disqualified because they did not have the certification.

To my knowledge, nobody has ever reported that their certification in Delphi helped them to attain a job, or even get an interview.  Personally, I don't think I would want to work for an employer that valued such a certification so highly that  it determined who was hired.

  7. I've never gotten a certification, and I have no problems getting hired for a Delphi position.  I was thinking of getting one, though.

  8. to answer in one word and a perverse smile: scam (:

would be better if you spend your time creating some every day utility app that shows other people that you're capable of writing something more than a "hello world", after all, utility apps take a few hours only...

based on my experience, Delphi devs. -- when needed -- are usually hired on the spot if they send the right signals, never been asked for such a certificate or any other certificate for that matter.

hats off to the guy that came with this idea, he made a good impression when presenting it (:
