Is there any way to receive e-mail notifications of new comments to a specific G+ post without first commenting on the post yourself?

Comments

  1. Not that I am aware of.  It would have been nice.

  2. In a way, it is a good thing -as it can stimulate more comments?

  3. Quality comments, or just people coming up with a work-around to a missing G+ feature? ;)

  4. +1 is not enough to give you notifications.

  5. Many things in G+ leave much to be desired, compared to newsgroups. But the noise level is lower here. ;)

  6. You can +1 a post, or a comment in the post - none of those will give a notification.  Which make sense - because I +1 a lot of posts during a day, without necessarily being interested in following that post.

  7. Emails I don't want, but I don't mind notifications.

  8. #sendfeedback  and ask for a Notify me on new comments menu entry. It works, although it takes time.

  9. Nick Hodges Even if +1 worked, which it doesn't, I wouldn't want it like that; partly for the reasons Lars Fosdal  mentions, but also because I see a +1 as a sort of personal endorsement/agreement.  I might want to "watch" a thread with which I completely disagree only out of interest.

  10. Bill Meyer Agreed.  Even the G+ display format is annoying, but I guess this is to more easily accommodate mobile devices?

  11. Kevin Powick No idea, but I'd say it's worth what I pay for it. ;)

  12. How about adding the posting profile to a Circle that you follow?  There is a setting to be notified if a user posts to a circle you subscribe to.

You could create a temp circle (Following Post) and when a user posts something you like, add them to that circle.  If they post more interesting stuff, put them in another, more-specific circle, otherwise remove them.  .

  13. That works for getting their initial posts, but not notifications for comments.

  14. fiddler mikey Way too hacky and inconvenient, IMO.  Plus it has the problems that Lars mentions. Thanks for trying to be creative, though.
