  1. Yes, and it's not for lack of immutable strings that people are leaving.

Unit number 5 is probably the right place for this thread, however.

  2. Bill Meyer Unit number 5 has 84 members including me. Im not sure it involves all interested developers in discussion. Hiding problem  never solve it.

  3. Alexey Petushkov Quite so. However, many of the comments which are likely to be offered will run afoul of the policies for this group, as I understand them. Moreover, history shows that we will be given no more than a condescending pat on the head, and the plans will remain unaltered.

  4. Simon Stuart Hard to know what case you are trying to make.  To effect change cost money. To force change on your installed base costs them money, in buckets. First, for the cost of the "improved" tool. Next, for the cost of broken code which must be rewritten. And then, for the cost of customers lost, while they wait for us to recover from the breakage we paid to endure.

For my part, it is a strong reason that I seldom update commercial tools, but often update free ones. The former too often suffer from ill-considered "improvements", while the latter rarely seem to. interesting contrast.

  5. Simon Stuart Thanks for the clarification. We shall see what happens, but the very best I can imagine is that they suffer very low sales on one release, and then change course. We users, on the other hand, will then have passed yet another year with no upgrade. And it is an open question whether a) they survive that year of low revenue or b) decide that the low revenue reflects not bad decisions on their part, but the expiration of a Delphi market.

  6. Simon Stuart Just so. I am afraid history is not on our side, however.

  7. This thread will be deleted.

If you have a need to rant on the tool or the politics around the tools, there IS a separate group for it.  Those that have an interest in these speculations will find that group - and it is clearly marked on the left side menu of this group.

This group is for PROGRAMMING issues.

  8. 1. Then move the thread, why delete it?
    2. What Group? Code Rants? Is this about Code?

  9. This group (Delphi Developers) has Categories, mostly related to Delphi Programming.  The intent of creating this group was to get away from the continuous bickering about politics.

A second group unit number5; at https://plus.google.com/communities/107051189935796169205 was created to focus on politics and rants about product mismanagement and the imminent death of ..., and so forth.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to move threads between groups.

  11. Obviously this wont be deleted, so now I'll share my two cents:
TIOBE is bogus, always was and always will be.

  12. A good thing about community posts: Even if they are removed from the community stream, they remain in the stream of the original poster.
