Presentation of XE5 in September. Then Android support gets removed and re-added in XE6 in 2014 ;-)
ReplyDeleteKrom Stern Android support is announced as a new feature of XE5. Please use google translate, it is described in the article above.
ReplyDeleteAnd since it is now officially XE 5 then it's a safe bet that they are going to be leading Delphi users by the nose to the milking shed once more.
ReplyDeleteJolyon Smith - I'd appreciate if that type of flame bait was kept on the official forums. As no pricing has been made public, it would be speculative at best. And - if you are on a SA, you've already accepted the cost.
ReplyDeleteTranslation: Dear developers!
ReplyDeleteTraditionally, in September we are launching a new version of RAD Studio, this year has been for us an exception, as we started the RAD Studio XE4 in which we have added support for iOS in April and received a lot of requests and questions about support for Android, as it is one of the most popular platforms for mobile development.
This September we will show you a new version of RAD Studio to which we have added support for the long-awaited Android. With support for Android, you can create applications for all popular platforms, including Windows, Mac OS X, iOS, Android from a single code base.
First city tour, we have chosen not casually St. Petersburg, in which we will arrive the day before your professional holiday on September 11. That it is one of our largest development centers. You will have the opportunity to communicate directly and ask questions to real developers. next stop will be the youngest city of Kazakhstan, Astana, September 18. The completion of the tour will be in Moscow on September 24.
Actually I'm eager to see new XE5 in action, even bought Nexus10 to boot :)
ReplyDeleteDavid I is demonstrating XE5 in Sydney on August 27th. I'll be posting live from the event at The TIndex.
ReplyDeleteBlog post "Updated Delphi Mobile Roamap" at http://blog.marcocantu.com/blog/updates_delphi_mobile_roadmap.html
ReplyDeleteMarco Cantù
ReplyDeleteYou din't answer my question in your blog so i'll try ask here again, think it's very important for all of us:
Intel finally came to her senses and decided to go to the mobile market is fully prepared:
http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/08/lenovo-k900-intel-clover-trail/ - low price, great perfomance and competitive baterry life, and its not even Bay trail-T!
So, in light of these events, can we expect in the incoming XE5 Delphi for Android, support not only for arm native code, but also generation of native code for
the Intel Atom x86 platform?
We are fully monitoring the Intel/Android market, which apparently will see Samsung also involved. But our first release of Delphi for Android is not expected to include Intel support...
ReplyDeleteMarco Cantù Is there any hope for x86 support in near releases?
ReplyDeleteThink this autumn intel will blowup mobile market! Arm just have no chance to survive, because all need more power - but with more power arm eat more energy then x86 on 22nm
Lars Fosdal it's not "flame bait" it's a colourful observation, and the road map states "pricing tba" so there will be pricing. As for where you think any particular type of comment should be made, if your post was suitable for Google+ then so are comments on the subject of that post. imho
ReplyDeleteJolyon Smith - I've been pushing hard to keep this community free from the negative crap around product management, and have it focus on getting things done with Delphi. I hope to keep it like that.
ReplyDeleteYou could have reshared the post to the Unit Number5; group instead. That community was made for venting, whining and worrying.
Was it whining ? It was an observation expressed in graphic terms. Any negative connotations or emotive colouring must be in the eye of the beholder. ;)
ReplyDeleteBut duly noted. I shall limit myself to stating the facts plainly from now on after first checking carefully which channel on G+ a particular post was directed.
So, revised:
"As a point of information for anyone perhaps expecting this to be a free update, the roadmap states "pricing tba" for this release, and the Android support is part of that new release. An upgrade charge is implied and perhaps expected (for anyone not on SA) although - as stated on the roadmap - the level of that pricing is not yet known."
I dunno - seems to say exactly the same thing to me but wasn't as much fun to write, or to read I suspect. :)
It still is completely irrelevant to solving coding issues in Delphi. Do we really want to turn this into the EMBT forums ver.2? This is not fucking non-tech.
ReplyDeleteHow does news about a new release solve any coding issue ?
ReplyDeleteIf the "tech" angle is "I can't do it yet and this new release might allow me" is arguably relevant, but then in that case "and whether I can afford/justify the expense" is equally relevant.
If you didn't want a non-tech discussion perhaps you shouldn't have posted a non-tech post ? Just a thought.
But whatever, I took note and am happy to leave it at that. Moving on.
I didn't make this post. But, when you mention it - your comment on my roadmap post was equally negative and irrelevant - and essentially the same comment as the one you made here.
ReplyDeleteMake love not war :)
ReplyDeleteLars, I do not appreciate your foul language. Say what you want to say, but do so in a respectful manner.
ReplyDeleteJennifer-Ashley Kuiper Translating Lars, this community is not a Delphi fan-club. It just a marketing tool for Delphi promotion. So there is never would be bad opinions about Delphi :)
ReplyDeleteYou are correct. This is not a Delphi fan-club, Alexey Petushkov.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping it is a place where Delphi developers can solve programming related issues.
If anyone feels like bitching, complaining and moaning about Embarcadero- I created a separate spot for that - and I have contributed to it.
Only a few have joined it - which I take as an indication of that people really don't care much for bitching and moaning.
It would make me really sad if this community turned into yet another non-tech, because I created this group to get away from all that passive-aggressive pseudo-civilized negativity.
My apologies for the strong language, Jennifer-Ashley Kuiper.
There are people waiting eagerly to hold long and impotent [sic] debates about that on the Embt forums, Pierre Duparte - here we can try to find ways around such issues, if they still are around in the release.
ReplyDeleteSigh.
ReplyDeleteWhy is it that disillusioned people wants burn everyones bridges, and not just their own?
ReplyDeleteLars, it's because people do not know to enjoy anymore...
