Delphi copy protection at its worst

Delphi copy protection at its worst

From slow startups to messing up your IDE, Delphi copy protection is harming all of legitimate users. It is about time that we send clear message that such things cannot be tolerated.

If it works, it works (maybe slow), but you never know when your license will be declared as suspicious and IDE will start doing wild things.

It all started with XE5 and Save button issue (QC#121676) that has been resolved in XE6, but guess what XE5 users are still stuck with it. And for XE6 they didn't fix or removed faulty copy protection behavior, they have just changed the way it messes up the IDE. Now it swaps File->Open and File->Exit actions. Even if you personally haven't encountered error yourself, please vote for following QC to pass message to Embarcadero. Thanks.

  1. I won't be using QC any more. Waiting for JIRA to finally be implemented for end-users.

  2. Jeroen Wiert Pluimers And the reason for that would be?

  3. And you know what's worst? illegal users never suffer from it, just because the protection is so lame, that even a beginer cracker can fix up all the mess. Shame on Embarcadero for annoying their users to asian levels.

  4. Jeroen Wiert Pluimers That's helluvalot of information...

  5. Wow. The difference between QC and JIRA is pretty significant. In both cases, we do the work of their Q/A and solicit other users to "vote"; but more often, it's ignored, delayed for years or "as designed".

Most of the time it's all three...

  7. Oliver Holmes one more reason to look on the promizing lazarus & fpc project...

  8. Heinz Toskano It's overrated imho.

  9. Michael Thuma I am not having this issue, I had one with Save button, but it was on clean install without any 3rd party components, and computer only had few versions of Delphi, TortoiseHg and Skype installed.

  10. I had to re-register all of my versions - XE4, 5, 6  twice already this year alone due to corrupted licensing info :-( .
I can't express how frustrating it is especially with the ridiculously limited number of registrations, and the long wait to get them bumped...

  11. I can't express how jealous I am of all those people that use cracks. I have bought 2 development licenses, and yet, I am having a hell of a time, while they are happily using the product for free. So I guess Embarcadero is just trying to encourage as many illigal users as possible...

  12. Boian Mitov How long did you wait? I got my license bumped in matter of hours, but that was during normal working hours.

  13. Both times it crashed over weekend. It got bumped by Monday sometime. I had other license keys fortunately, as I have multiple licenses, so I switched to a different key, but I am sure there are customers that do not buy 2-3 licenses each time as I do.
And I even have SA for them.

  14. Boian Mitov It can be ugly if it crashes at bad time. I always have backup options available, but still you never know...

  15. Just had to re-register again, because I needed to rename one of the test VMs. The license is even locked to the network name!!! This is ingenious, no doubt!
I think Embarcadero should offer its paying customers official Crack, so at least we will enjoy the same benefits as the illegal ones.

  16. Boian Mitov Yep, you cannot change a thing without worrying whether you will break it or not.

  17. Boian Mitov And then this "official" crack for sure will find its way into the web ... Not a good idea at all tbh.

  18. Stefan Glienke Without stupid, over the top, copy protection, that gets cracked anyway, legit users would not need any "official" cracks. But I am just dreaming here ;-)
