  2. Dang, and I hadn't even started my fresh install of XE6 yet! :D
Now I have start it, register it, exit it, download it, install it, and enjoy it!

Edit: Apparently, I also have to wait for it... as it seems to take some time from registering to the download gets permissioned :/

Edit 2: It helped to think about it. Logged in to see my user downloads, and voila!

  3. Marco Cantù Curious question: Why is there a delay between the release of the web install and then ISO?

  4. IMO, EMBT should remake the installer.  To require a full uninstall to update is kinda ridiculous.

  5. Not a full install, again! It just bloody takes forever.

  6. Jemer Garibay From our initial testing, XE6 iOS apps run fine on iOS8. Still some time to go, and things might change.

Nicholas Ring I think the delay is only due to the fact that physical hosting is different, but I'm not really sure.

Lars Fosdal We should certainly remake the installer, but as long as we use the "required by Microsoft" Windows Installer support, it will always be a complete mess to handle updates. It is Microsoft Installer that makes applying patches a total mess, imho.

Daniela Osterhagen Quite the opposite. Applying a patch with so many files involved it is much slower than doing an uninstall/reinstall. When we see that "patching" becomes slower than a full re-install, we go for the latter. Also, an error during a patch can make a system easily unusable...

  7. Uninstall/Install: 2 hours and 15 minutes.
100Mbit/s line and SSD disks helps, I guess.

At least I could tinker in SQL Management Studio while it was ongoing.

  8. Marco Cantù - Can't the MS Installer requirements be covered by doing an MS reglemented installation of shared packages, and install a RADStudioUpdate app, which then takes care of the RADStudio specific installation?  It could have options like Install, Update, Refresh, Reinstall, Uninstall. That app should be able to pull hotfixes as well.

  9. Lars Fosdal Possibly, but it is more tricky than it seems. It is true other installers are faster and simpler, but we do install quite a massive amount of files.

  10. It is very annoying  to have to uninstall AND RE-INSTALL for a update.  Then you have to re install all of your components again. Now that  my Delphi XE6 has been uninstalled  the installer is telling me my license(which I copied and pasted) is not valid.  JUST GREAT!! made my day!!. Bye the way the way the IDE does have an updater so what exactly is that used for?

  11. I had to call support who had me change the last digit to a six and then it worked: https://downloads.embarcadero.com/item/29896

  12. Support also recommends that you manually delete all files 14.0 and below  if you already have XE6 installed to speed up the install. It seems to have worked to get the install running quickly [not that that the actual install doesn't take quite a while]
