How secure is this AppTethering?
If not secure, what are good ways to make it secure?
AppTethering is demonstrated in the video at Remote Control a Windows App from a Mobile Device

  1. As far as I know it is a totally unprotected connection over WiFi. So your only security is the WiFi's security and everybody who is in the same network segment can potentially read what's going on.

  2. Daniela Osterhagen It is not even WiFi security as it works on the same subnet between wired machines as well.

  3. IMHO, there's a good way to enhance the security right now which using Time depend encryption to exchange data. My concept is:
1/ device fetch server current time T.
2/ device using T as current time base.
3/ using current time  (with some tolerance) as a key to encode or decode data.

The algorithms is embedded in executables,  therefore it's not easy to break. Even if data is dumped from sniffer, those data might become invalid next TIME and be drop by server.

  4. Qing-Shan Xiao why not use something like SSL does? Proven algorithms...

  5. Jeroen Wiert Pluimers because RIGHT NOW we can only secure that on application layer until EMBT implement network layer ,SSL. :)

  6. Qing-Shan Xiao that's not completely true: I've seen SSL bindings (I think for Indy) so it certainly is possible.
