My discovery of the day... if you let Windows 8 set the scaling independently for each monitor (the default) VMWare will re-scale your virtual machines down to 2560x1440 instead of 3860x2160. It took me a day of frustration to discover that I had to tick "force all displays to the same scaling" and set that scaling to 100% (smallest). UHD rescaled to 2560x1440 looks fuzzy and awful no matter what you do in the app inside the VM.
