Delphi Developers - New Zealand Needs You!

Delphi Developers - New Zealand Needs You!

We can use your Delphi skills today and provide the opportunities to develop your skills for tomorrow, whether you are interested in management, analysis, or continued development in mobile, cloud or enterprise.

Datacom Systems Ltd. is an established, respected and admired IT service provider.  Founded in New Zealand in 1965 we now have over 3,500 employees in 23 countries worldwide, 750 of those in software development.

We need a number of Delphi developers for our expanding Application Management and Transformation team.  Based in Auckland, NZ's largest city, the role will involve regular and frequent travel within the region and further afield.

We have received a number of CV's already (thank you), but if you haven't yet sent yours and might be considering this as an option, please get in touch.  Having emigrated here from the UK myself in 2005, I am happy to answer any questions about living and working in NZ and/or the immigration experience (though we have a specific team that can help with the actual process when the time comes).

Please send CV's or inquiries to me in the first instance.  Using gmail you can get in touch via Google+ if you add me to your circles.

I look forward to hearing from you.

  1. Simon Stuart as a company Datacom provides a wide range of services to numerous client organisations.

We are building our Delphi capabilities in the Application Management and Transformation (AM&T) team in order to be able to provide these services to clients with Delphi applications.  Delphi is just one component of course.

Being in the legacy space we have to deal with all sorts, including C, C++, COBOL to name just 3 beginning with C.  :)

The Management part is providing the on-going support and maintenance for existing applications.  In most cases this provides the necessary support to the client's business why they - or often we, on their behalf - develop replacement technologies - the Transformation part.

Sometimes those transformations involve refreshing the existing technology platform (i.e. remaining with Delphi).  But I have to say that would be unusual.  More typically the goal is indeed to phase out Delphi due to the lack of Delphi skills in New Zealand.

But there are a significant number of clients in this position, and some of them have a significant Delphi codebase that will not be easily or quickly replaced.

In other words, we anticipate a significant volume of Delphi work for a good number of years.

At the same time however, it is a reality of life that the future will hold less Delphi (and in fact that the "legacy" code of the future will be .net/C#).  Hence the opportunity to develop into .net and/or other technologies and platforms.

  2. I'm afraid I can't speak to any specific relocation assistance that may be provided (and any that there might be would be specific to an individual's circumstances in any event) but as I mentioned we do have people to assist with the immigration process.

It's fair to say that providing the job is a key piece of assistance in and of itself.  The Skilled Migrant Category route offers resident status upon arrival.  The alternative being to obtain a Work Visa, which only provides the opportunity to apply for residency after 2 years continuous employment and is tied to a specific employment (i.e. employer).

More information on migration can be found here: http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/work/skilledmigrant/overview

  3. Nice to see a Job advert for NZ.  Just curious what dev environment you mainly use for the C# work MS or another flavour ?

  4. Brett Wilton there is not much that we don't use here at Datacom.  :)

But yes, where we have a free choice, that is not subject to client requirements/specification, i.e. for internal projects and tools development, our team (Application Management and Transformation) most often use Microsoft C# and TFS.

  6. Refreshing post. Are all tasks on-site, or are you also looking for remote people?

  7. Bruce McGee no.

Just to clarify:  The role is on-site, but not office-bound.  The "site" on any given day may be the Datacom office or a client site, hence the travel aspect (to those client sites).

  9. There is a careers page on the Datacom website, listing all of the currently open positions.  Simply follow the link to the appropriate position and go from there.  The Delphi position specifically is this one:

    http://www.datacom.co.nz/Careers/Hiring-Now/Delphi-Developer.

But there are other opportunities which people may be interested in, so I would recommend taking a look at the complete Careers - "Hiring Now" list.
