Interesting article. I'm not sure I'd agree about the preference of tests - following your system, I'd prefer to test in order 1-7 (roughly.) I feel 1-3 are all doable; I don't know of any good way to test a UI, especially because I consider a UI to be modified far more often than a base class's interface.
