XE6 or XE7 for VCL Development? Putting aside mobile and Firemonkey considerations, does anybody have any thoughts on which of XE6 or XE7 is more stable for VCL development? I get the slight impression from various posts that XE6 did a good job of being a "quality" release, but things might have deteriorated slightly with XE7. (I'm pretty sure both of them still suffer from the "out of memory" problem which is a major pain in our current XE5.) 75% of our work is still in VCL so even a small difference in stability could make a lot of difference - we're looking to hopefully stay on the same version for 18-24 months. Looking at the feature list I don't think there's anything too compelling in the VCL side for us.

  1. I'm pretty sure at present Castalia is something you have to install yourself. It may contribute to the instability, but I think there are significant issues even without it. I'm expecting to see it installed by default when XE8 comes out, but hopefully with the option to uninstall it - even though I admire its cleverness and intentions, I find it rather distracting.

  2. yeah, I think I seem to remember it was an option to install it from a link after XE7 first came out...?

  3. Brian Hamilton  Actually I mean after you renamed it during the IDE start-up, it'll ask you whether or not it should load the DLL again the next time, and if I choose yes, I don't know how to get it back. If it's a BPL or an expert that appears in GExperts' Expert Manager, I know I can reinstall it, but not with a built-in DLL at the moment :)
