I had to disable Castalia in XE8 today as it was preventing me from simple copy and paste of code, crashing the IDE each time I try to paste a piece of code :-(

It's that bad? WTH did they do?
ReplyDeleteBill Meyer No idea. I suspect that it hangs the IDE if the code you paste has tabs or tabs at the beginning of the lines etc.
ReplyDeleteI guess as opposed to Castalia, what EMBT really want was the app analytics from the author...
ReplyDeleteI've had Castalia for some time. But it's always been fickle with stability. I spent more time with it uninstalled while owning a license than installed.
ReplyDeleteSo this was one of the first IDE things I did was remove Castalia from XE8
Lance Rasmussen Yeah... I did test a trail a while ago. I had to uninstall it 1H later due to huge number of issues :-( . Shame, it is a very promising product, but way too buggy :-(
ReplyDeleteOne of the most wanted XE8's feature is able to disable castalia!
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with Emb? again...
They certainly could do with a better set of test files. Various file formats, character sets, and weird code.
ReplyDeleteNooo :'( Castalia is pretty nice :D
ReplyDeleteHorácio Filho Only when it works...
ReplyDeleteBoian Mitov When I had it installed in XE7 it seemed to work better :)
ReplyDeleteHorácio Filho I don't know how it was. I tried one of the trails before, and had to uninstall it ~2 H later due to a vast number of issues. I work on very big projects thou. It may be fine for smaller and simpler projects. But even the simple code paste to hang the IDE is beyond comprehension.
ReplyDeleteBoian Mitov I understand, it is really very annoying :'( I have never worked on big projects nor very big ones so I think it is the reason I doesn't surf on any problem with Castalia, but something have changed since that Castalia was acquired by Embarcadero. In XE8 release, with Castalia enabled, the IDE flicks and some features don't available anymore.
ReplyDelete[DE] Sowas kommt von sowas! [EN] Castalia has not been integrated into the IDE and is thatswhy very instable. Hacks is a No-Go for OEM stuff!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to look closer, but Castalia, as mentioned, is not integrated in the IDE but is a plugin. No different that FireDac being integrated when it's still essentially a component package.
ReplyDeleteUwe Schuster
ReplyDeleteFollowing that logic, what really is broken is the plugin-interface. If we assume Castalia to be OK and the IDE to be OK that is the only logical explanation. BUT there are a bunch of very good plugins, that do not break when you look at them sharply. So we're back to Castralia being what it is: Nice to look at, when it's not being used.
