It's allergy season again for me and I'm going crazy with itchy/watery eyes. This makes development work pretty tough. I've tried many over-the-counter and a few homeopathic remedies, but none seem overly helpful.

If you have seasonal allergies that affect your eyes, what have you found that works to relieve the symptoms?

  1. Don't touch your eyes, wash your (better short) hair every day, take your medicine (for me it's called LORANO) -- work's for me... partly

  2. don't know about the eyes, but, if you have stuffy nose(from sneezing or not), massaging(for 1-2 min) the top part of the nose helps a ton more than any drug

  3. Got an allergen-desensitizing treatment after heavy allergy as a teenager and never had trouble again.

  4. Aerius is used to relieve the symptoms of allergic rhinitis (inflammation of the nasal passages caused by an allergy, for example, hay fever or allergy to dust mites) or urticaria (a skin condition caused by an allergy, with symptoms including itching and hives).

The medicine can only be obtained with a prescription.

  5. Ice-cold shock shower directly after waking up. Also, think about rinsing your hair more often, especially before going to bed to eliminate pollen residues.

  6. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allergen_immunotherapy helped big time for me. Had to do two series. If stopping doesn't help, I can continue the treatment by having one shot about every 6-8 weeks.

  7. I know... I'm allergic from mars to september

  8. Jeroen Wiert Pluimers  Yeah, I'd recommend this too.  I've never needed it, but a friend of mine with severe allergies started getting allergy shots a few months ago.  Now that spring has started, she says it's "like night and day," far, far better than her allergies in spring have been for years.

  9. Mason Wheeler my experience exactly. I was off the scale allergic to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mugwort#Allergen The treatment started in autumn. Next season was already better. Now it is like 80% gone. Which is OK enough for me as I come from a family with quite a lot of allergies (usually appearing between the age of 30s and 40s).

  10. Thanks for the suggestions so far everyone.  I didn't suffer from allergies until about 5 years ago.  I guess many people who never had problems with allergies in the past develop them when they  move to this part of the country (Southern Ontario, Canada).  I guess allergens are found in high concentrations here.

  12. Kevin Powick sometimes it runs in the family, or it is just bad luck. In my case, it had been building up for a couple of years, but I didn't recognise it until I was having a kind of "Summer Flue" - including raised temperature - that didn't stop after a few weeks and my eyes almost popping out of my head. The really bad thing was that the antihistamines I tried either didn't help, or made me very drowsy. It also took a while to figure out what did help: not being home (where it worsened), but inside buildings with good air conditioning and clean filters, or close to the sea. So I managed doing this: being at clients from 0700-1900 and having dinner away from home, spending the weekends as far from home as possible. And indeed: short hair, shower twice a day, wash your eyes and nasal irrigation (no need for difficult to handle devices or saline, just with my face under the tap with plain cold water is way faster). Glad it is so much better now.
I'm suspecting my brother is up next (I'm his legal guardian as he has an IQ < 50). Now I know the good doctors, it won't be much of an issue.
Good luck, as the memories are not so nice (:

  13. Nicholas Ring I've spent 4 years in the Indian Ocean (Reunion Island) without allergies, they came back with my return to Paris :/

  14. Paul TOTH I've had the same type of experience.  I was out of the country on business last week with no issues.  The day I returned home, so did my allergy symptoms.

  15. Paul TOTH it certainly doesn't help living close to highway, airport and city. But it is very convenient though.
