maybe it's a bit academic to start more than 20 tethering applications on the same computer, but the 21st application just "hangs" and I haven't found a way to handle this gracefully.

Not much feedback on SO yet, but the feedback I got so far seems to confirm my thought that this is a nasty bug in the tethering implementation.
