ReplyDeleteSo, if I dropped a couple of grand for Delphi XE8 Enterprise when it was released, but did not opt for Update Subscription, I would not be entitled to the vast majority of those fixes?
ReplyDeleteKevin Powick Incorrect I believe - You would not be entitled to any of those fixes (is my understanding).
ReplyDeletegood that there is some bug fixes for non SA
ReplyDeleteSo you buy a product that is faulty and then "have" to pay for it to be fixed?
ReplyDeleteRichard Mace Pretty much yes.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's incredible. How can that possibly work in the long term?
ReplyDeleteRichard Mace I guess you are on the wrong end of the stick if you know what I mean. :)
ReplyDeleteRichard Mace It's an indirect way of forcing you to buy a subscription. It would be better though if EMB simply removed the normal license option, because it is useless, and it just results in angry or frustrated customers like you.
ReplyDeleteUpdates to major released version you owned never previously cost anything. E.g. if you bought (say) XE then its service packs/fixes are implied being available to you as they are fixes to what you already own. Are you guys sure this has changed? Reference please? Edit: I see it says "Subscription Update 1" ... hmmm... if that really means subscription only then that's really not on.
ReplyDeletethis is nothing new, its been strongly encouraged to be on SA/update subscription for a couple of years now
ReplyDeleteStrongly encourage should not mean effectively making the other options essentially non-viable. If EMB continues to sell non maintenance release based software licences, then those should continue to be sold in a way which allows one access to fixes for that major release. Having at least one and sometimes more updates for a major release is almost an inevitability, so not allowing non-maintenance based buyers access to service packs seems tantamount to a bait and switch.
ReplyDeleteI've said it before, they really should include a year of subscription in the initial purchase price.
ReplyDeleteAsbjørn Heid I'm pretty sure that will come very soon.
ReplyDeleteAsbjørn Heid They should stop selling anything without subscription included.
ReplyDeleteBit of warning for people that may have been on subscription but it has expired in the meantime. It looks like you would be able to download and install Subscription Update 1, but you will not be able to use it, so you would have to reinstall original XE8 again. https://forums.embarcadero.com/thread.jspa?threadID=116015&tstart=0
ReplyDeleteDalija Prasnikar I just wish that Embarcadero Technologies would stop babysitting its developers because its becoming absurd.
ReplyDeleteNicholas Ring Wow. Why would anyone want to do business with a company like this?
ReplyDeleteKevin Powick I guess Nick Hodges was right! Pay or no fixes!
ReplyDeletehope generics mashalling bug is resolved.... i don't see it in list...
ReplyDeletethe others fixes we must to PAY for them in the next release lol
ReplyDeleteGabriel Velasquez Soriano Not if your subscription lasts long enough.
ReplyDeletewell , even though I recently purchased an update subscription,I now get an error about it has expired, and so I cant now use XE8 after installing update 1 (I do know that after updating my SA the date of exipiry never did update). Help
ReplyDeleteI had the same problem. I fixed by running the license manager and clicking on Update. Hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteBTW, open licensemanager.exe from the bin directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Embarcadero\Studio\16.0\bin)
HI..that has not helped. The update subscription says it expired last month and yet I purchased an update for that a couple of months ago. For what ever reason I have registraion problems every single time with new Delphi versions
ReplyDeletewhats the contact email for my problem again?, thanks :)
ReplyDeleteYou can try the support phone 1-800-523-7070 (I think?)
ReplyDeleteor open a case at:

Hi. support have resolved this for me :)
ReplyDeleteone good thing about update 1 is that all my 3rd party components are still in place :)
None fixes related to PPL :'(
ReplyDeleteHorácio Filho They want you to buy fixes when XE9 comes. What a crazy company.
ReplyDeleteJosé RamÃrez I think we will fix the bugs related to PPL at the same time that they introduce Task Continuation and Cancellation Token features :D
ReplyDeleteHorácio Filho We developed our own PPL library here at work :P
ReplyDeleteJosé RamÃrez It looks amazing :D I would be very excited whether I could see it :D Great work.
ReplyDeleteso far XE8 update 1 for me is much better IDE stability wise with a large FMX project....just going through and compiling it...tspinbox and tedit now needs FMX.EditBox, FMX.SpinBox added to uses I see
ReplyDeleteAnother change I just found: memo1.AniCalculations.AutoShowing:=false;
is now not allowed ...protected.....using that, it made the scroll bars show...maybe that is now done anyway
