Nicholas Ring I'd love not having to restart the IDE 50 times a day. I'd love an IDE that doesn't freeze up for many seconds at a time on a 4 core, 8 virtual CPUs i7. I'd love an IDE that doesn't run out of memory at 1.4Gb on a machine with 32Gb RAM.
yeah, currently using XE6 with a large FMX project for OSX. I need to restart the IDE after every 3rd compile and deploy to the mac. XE7 is worse and XE8 I could not do anthing before the IDE crashed
Uwe Raabe Yes, I am on update subscription. But peeking into quality portal, none of my reported bugs are in "Internal QA". Looks like I have to wait for XE9, which seems to be also on the road (see comments in https://quality.embarcadero.com/browse/RSP-9448)
Achim Kalwa That specific issue was actually addressed in XE8, but the solution has been deemed incomplete by QA, so some more work needs to be done. But in XE8 it does work better.
How does Rad Studio/Delphi even get out the door at EMBT? Their lack of QA is appalling. It's not a $0.99 app. It's supposed to be a top-of-the-line, professional tool. At least, that's what the price tag says.
Asbjørn Heid There should be one I guess. There is a plugin for VS2013. But what's funny is that C++ Builder uses version 3.1 which is like 3 years old. So that means no C++14 either. You can verify it by typing bcc64 -v
Kind of makes you think what are you paying for? :)
yes its worth to try alright :) Before update 1, my big FMX project, the IDE crashed with me doing nothing..update 1 ,even with Castelia in use, its as good as XE6 . So a huge improvement. There are alot of complainers out there though who are bagging the IDE stability of XE7/8 but have not even tried XE8.1 yet (probably because they are not SA?)
List of fixes is not available, yet.
ReplyDeleteNeat-o - Anyone want to start taking bets on what fixes are going to be in it? ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy #1 is Castalia fixes - duh!
I hope improvements have been made to the IDE memory issues with FMX :)
ReplyDeleteBrian Hamilton That brings up a good point - what fixes would people like to see in the update (and no, you can't have them all)?
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'm just happy because it means the work on XE9 and proper DPI management can happen.

ReplyDeleteLars Fosdal I could have it not sayed better! +100 for that!
ReplyDeleteI really hope that they've fixed IDE memory issue.
ReplyDeleteJust curious: Are you guys all on Update Subscription?
ReplyDeleteUwe Raabe I better be otherwise someone is in trouble :-)
ReplyDeleteBeen on update sub for years - basically since it became available.
ReplyDeleteYes, freshly...

ReplyDeleteFix IDE memory issues!!!
ReplyDeleteLars Fosdal
ReplyDeleteme too...
Uwe Raabe , where can we found if our subscription is still active or not ?
ReplyDeleteStéphane Wierzbicki I just keep track of the emails from Emba regarding my maintenance. Actually some nice (sales?) person is contacting me every year asking if I would like to renew my Update Subscription (formerly known as Support and Maintenance). Actually the last invoice should mention the date range for your subscription.

ReplyDeleteStill no Clang for 32 bit C++ Builder. How sad.
ReplyDeleteJosé RamÃrez Is there a 32bit producing clang/llvm for Windows at all? Last I heard it was blocked by a patent (regarding exception handling).

José RamÃrez Ah the patent expired June 2014, and from glancing at the LLVM dev mailing list, someone is working on implementing SEH support in LLVM. So maybe EMB can pick this work up in another 5-6 years :P
ReplyDeleteHopefully they fix the new help system in XE8 that seems to lock up whenever you try to search for something.
ReplyDeleteAsbjørn Heid Actually C++ Builder statically links to Delphi RTL. Who knew :D
ReplyDeleteXE8 Update 1 big improvement for IDE stability on big projects, kudos!
ReplyDeleteBrian Hamilton
ReplyDeleteHa, it is worth to try? Big projects compiles from the IDE without "out of memory"?
Jean-Marc Kiener No. There are still memory leaks.
ReplyDeleteJosé RamÃrez I'm not sure that these are actually memory leaks. It may be just a very high memory demand. Not that it makes any difference, though.
