Coffee, Tea, or something else?
Coffee, Tea, or something else?
I came back to coffee after being on tea for about 10 years. For me, coffee offers a richness and satisfaction that I don't get from tea. My original reason for switching to tea was that too much coffee left my stomach unsettled. However, now I just limit myself to one cup a day, with a meal, never on its own.

We have a professional Iced Tea Maker at work, and I drink and absurd amount of iced tea as a result.
ReplyDelete2 Cups of Coffee a day keeps the bugs away...
ReplyDeleteCoffee. I save tea for herbal concoctions that are supposed to help me sleep. There may be a connection here with the amount of coffee I sometimes drink...
ReplyDeleteEspresso only. Between 5 - 10 cups a day. No problems with stomach or sleep so far. Sometimes it feels like being a bit addicted, but that's OK for me.
ReplyDeleteI can't be without my coffee starting first thing in the AM but never after 2:00 PM. Bad for sleep.
ReplyDeletecoffee when reading and lemon tea when coding.
ReplyDeleteCoffee. The nectar of the gods
ReplyDeleteCoffee in the morning, up till around 14:00 as well.....after then its lemon or herbal else not much sleep for me.
ReplyDeleteSimilar to Brett Wilton, a coffee in the morning (unless I want to scary the co-workers, then it might be two :-) ) and rarely after 12 Noon.
ReplyDeleteCoffee, in huge quantities.
ReplyDeleteI could say I am addicted, but only if I have to do some programming. I usually don't drink coffee at all when I don't sit behind the keyboard :)
nice post Kevin Powick , I'm quite interested in the results...
ReplyDeleteI have an espresso in the morning and after that lots of water. More than one coffee and it's no sleep for me.
I've never considered tea to be a brain waker, I'll try it.
How much coffee do you drink on a typical day? 40 ounces for me is about the norm.
ReplyDeleteBrandon Staggs Just a cup for me, and not even every day. Usually have it with lunch, but sometimes in the morning.
ReplyDeleteBoth. Coffee before 3PM, Tea after - or I will be Sleepless after Seattle... Nudge, Nudge, wink, wink ;)
ReplyDeleteCan some one please ban Lars Fosdal for 24 hrs
ReplyDeleteAmazing the amount of coffee programmers drink. But as a resident dentist in the Delphi community please be sure you do not put sugar in. It will REALLY rot your teeth - much decay, pain suffering, root canal and expense. Frequent sugared drinks, especially between meals are disastrous to teeth. The unsugared coffee is fine for teeth. It's the sugar that mixes with mouth bacteria which make acids, which then dissolve out the calcium phosphate in the teeth. I have zero tolerance of sugared drinks. Just a tip for the unwary from someone who scrapes decay out of people's teeth every day. Yuck!
ReplyDeleteSplenda in mine. At 40 years old and only a couple of very small fillings (no anesthetic needed) my teeth are quite happy. Sugar in drinks is bad for your overall health. :-)
ReplyDeleteBecause I like Splenda in hot drinks (aspartame in cold ones), and I am content to let other people experiment with little-tested additives anyway. :-)
ReplyDeleteBrandon Staggs Do yourself a favor and don't use carcinogens like Aspartame. There are a lot of natural sweeteners from plant extracts, like Stevia, that do the job and also save you from trouble.
ReplyDeleteApostolis Tympakianakis That is largely a myth. http://www.gizmag.com/should-you-fear-aspartame-diet-pepsi/37210 - There is no proven link to cancer - unless in extreme concentrations - i.e. several orders of magnitude beyond what normal consumptions would be. There are other worries, though - but cancer is not the problem.
ReplyDeleteApostolis Tympakianakis Aspartame is probably one of the most heavily-tested food additives that exists, and the preponderance of evidence shows it is safe. Thanks for the advice but I will enjoy my two or three aspartame-sweetened drinks a week. I used to be almost 300 pounds and have been under 200 for about 8 years, in no small part due to dropping sugar from my diet.
ReplyDeleteBTW, Natural != Safe, and Artificial != Danger. :-)
ReplyDeleteI can't stand the (after) taste of drinks sweetened with Aspartame. I was recently out of a drink and ordered a Gin and Tonic. Upon my first sip I thought there was something really off with the drink. I asked to see the can from which the tonic water was poured, and it was "diet" tonic water i.e. contained aspartame. The bartender was unhappy to discover that the 3 cases of tonic water they had just purchased were all diet (it was a mistake). I had a rum and coke instead.
ReplyDeleteAs I live in a country that produce one of the best coffee in the world, and have access to fresh roasted and grounded coffee, I drink a lot of it. I never use a machine to make coffee, here we drip boiling water over grounded coffee and wait until we get a very strong and dark coffee essence, then we put some in a mug and dilute it with warm water. Also put some sugar.
ReplyDeleteTea :-( I love coffee, but the side effects of my addiction caused periodic sickness due to withdrawal symptoms. So now I just drink the same amount but in tea-form. It sucks but it's better than nothing.
ReplyDeleteEvery now and again I relapse, and it feels soo good.
Oh the hard live of an addict.
