On last Thursday (22nd), there was the first Australian Developer Day, (http://ausdd.embarcadero-info.com/) sponsored by Embarcadero Technologies. Malcolm Groves was quite worried about the weather (it seems that when it rains in Sydney, people don't turn up - personally, I wouldn't turn up if it was good weather... off to the beach but I digress) but it held out long enough for people to arrive and once there, they stayed. I did over hear someone say that they came for one or two sessions but in the end stayed for the entire day - yet again, I digress.

I did over hear someone say that they came for one or two sessions but in the end stayed for the entire day - yet again, I digress.

shane van de Vorstenbosch was there giving away some copies of his "The Rotten Cookbook" (http://rottenfoodcookbook.com.au/) - I can't wait to make up some of those dishes for work!! ;-)

During the sessions, some information was "leaked" out by people such as Malcolm Groves, David Intersimone and Damien Bootsma. Such items that were leaked were such things as:

* Compile to Linux coming next year - Sort of old news but since they are talking more and more about it, it could be in the next release...

* Seattle DCUs are binary compatible with XE8 - I am quite sure that I misheard David Intersimone on this one. But it might be coming soon, as checking the ToolsAPI directory, there is the constant of "sGenerateUniversalBinaryFile"

* Another "slip" in the IDE department was that there is a cryptic enumeration that was added. This is to allow the IDE to head back to how it was like in Delphi 7 - floating form editors for both FMX and VCL but isn't used in Seattle, as it was still a little, er, not full featured (buggy), so it has been disabled (there was talk that there might be a registry entry to enable it but discussion stopped there - I will let the reader search for such setting, if there is one). I believe the enumeration is TCustomModuleAttribute.cmaFloating (in DesignIntf.pas) and could actually make it in to the (Seattle) update (another "slip") but I wouldn't bet the house just yet.

* The next city possibly could be an European one, as the beta's codename has something to do with a clock...

* Seattle update might be just around the corner, as it seems to be around November when they occur (but you could have figured out that one yourself).

Of course, I could have totally misheard/interpret this information, so it might be better to ask else where to see if you can get the same answer.

Please don't ask for any other pieces of information, as I don't have any. It could be that I have lost my source after this (but I doubt it).

Back to ADD. I had a great day and a thanks to go out to (in no order):
* all the speakers,
* Lachlan Gemmell (ADUG president and the deleter of my competition entries :-P ),
* Arena Business Technologies (http://www.arena.net.au/),
* Malcolm Groves (for looking "pretty") and his team (which did all the hard work),
* David Intersimone (for flying over),
* Embarcadero Technologies for sponsoring it, and
* to everyone else that made it a day to remember,
* for the prizes (which I didn't win),
* tid-bits of "insider" information,
* catching up with old friends, and making new ones!

Hopefully it will become an annual event, to which I will be able to attend!

  1. Sounds a great event! And some very interesting hints about what's coming soon.

    Cue speculation: Clock... I can think of a couple of famous European clocks. Luckily I am not yet in the beta program so can speculate openly. If I stop speculating and go to radio silence, you'll know what happened :)
