  1. David Millington But I thought Microsoft has been hinting that there will be no more versions of Windows, that they'd be moving to what we call in the Linux world a "rolling release". They said that in the future you'd just either be "up to date" or "not up to date".

  2. True story... the OpenSuse Linux distribution had a big discussion a few years ago about changing its numbering scheme. It used to go x.0, x.1, x.2, x.3 and then y.0. There was no relation between the numbers and new features.

A study of download statistics had shown that .0 releases got downloaded half as much as any of the other ones! It seems everyone assumed the .0 releases were major breaking releases and decided to "wait for the .1 version". On the other side, non-point zero releases were getting much less press/reviews because the media assumed they were just minor updates!

The solution, as silly as it sounds, was to skip .0 releases. Now it goes 12.1, 12.2, 12.3, 13.1, etc.

  3. A. Bouchez As a New Jerseyite I like your idea. Bjarne Stroustrup might say that you can shoot yourself in the foot with C++, but just wait until you can literally shoot yourself with Delphi 10 Newark.
