  1. Please, Idera, reconsider this decision.  One of the major strengths of this community has been the absence of artificial boundaries.

  2. USA sends people to jail if they break sanctions. So it's hardly surprising that companies are scared of that. The real issue is the USA government.

  3. It doesn't seem personal in any way. The U.S. is imposing sanctions on Iran, including technological transfer.

On top of that, I don't know how he got a copy of Delphi in the first place. In the EULA there is this line:

    > In particular, but without limitation, Product
    >may not be, downloaded, used, exported or
    >re-exported (a) in or to (or by or to a national
    >or resident of) any country then under U.S.
    >economic embargo (currently including, but
    >not necessarily limited to, Cuba, Iran, North
    >Korea, Sudan, and Syria),

So Idera can't legally sell him Delphi but he has Delphi somehow anyway. I guess the thinking is that him being an MVP draws attention to or suggests that they're breaking the sanctions. I'm not sure I agree with that, but I do understand not giving him copies of the software under those circumstances. I would have handled it differently and conferred on him a new title of "Honorary MVP", apologized, and promised to change this as soon as sanctions are lifted and throw in something else for free to make up for the inconvenience.

To find some silver lining... apparently the new owner is paying attention to details, unlike the last owner, if they're even scrutinizing MVP lists now.

On the other hand... an old EMBT employee asking someone to keep quiet... I don't know about Iran's government, but Delphi's 'regime change" could do with a bit more changing of the guard.....
