I'm doing a skill sprint on writing plugins today! If you're curious about writing plugins, this is for you. It covers more than the standard 'this is a wizard' too - it also covers notifiers, making dockable forms, and painting on the code editor using the new API in Seattle. That's a lot of stuff and will give you a really good basis to start writing any plugin you want.
