Just rebuilt my dev VM with Windows 10 and decided to re-install the old versions as well as D10 Seattle... I don't really need all of these old versions, but it seems kinda geeky-cool to have them all on one machine for some reason. I didn't try very hard to get D2 installed, and I think my discs for D2006 are in a drawer at work that I'll look for to help complete the collection.

Hah, cool. Loved D5, D7 and D2007.
ReplyDeleteDo they fire up ok - I was under the impression the older ones didn't work so well on Windows 7+ (or do you turn of UAC & run everything as admin)?
Congrats, you beat me by the three oldest versions, but I've got D2006. I think I should have Delphi 1, 3, 4 and 5 install disks somewhere. Delphi 1, being 16 bit, probably won't install though.
ReplyDeleteI am very impressed that you were able to install D3 to D5 on a Windows 7 machine without issues. I hope these weren't the floppy disk versions (only kidding).
ReplyDeleteAfter posting this, I went back and looked at Delphi 2 and just got that installed and working. The setup program doesn't run, but there's a RunImage that you can copy in and then just setup the standard registry entries for paths. #HappyGeek
ReplyDeleteRichard Baroniunas The worst one seemed to be Delphi 2005 which had some issues with old .Net requirements.
ReplyDeleteRob Uttley They all seem to work great.. (The old ones are very speedy to load) I chose to install them into "C:\Dev" instead of Program Files to avoid any related issues.
ReplyDeleteThomas Mueller I have the D1 disk in front of me.. 16-bit, didn't try it. I did get D2 installed so that helps balance out the missing D2006. : )
ReplyDeleteDarian Miller Aah, good call. Nice one!
ReplyDeleteI don't see D8 ;)
ReplyDeleteBill Meyer nor D2007 for .Net! I have never installed either. : )
ReplyDeleteDarian Miller I was extremely unhappy with Delphi 2005, it was a resource pig and buggy.
ReplyDeleteThe only older version I kept is Delphi 7; in my opinion, the most stable to date.
ReplyDeleteHow long is your path env variable after this!
ReplyDeleteDarian Miller Delphi 2! Oh, I have never seen it :)
ReplyDeleteBtw, have you also installed latest update of each release?
(jealous) Now you can have your own ALT-Team gallery from almost all versions!

Thx to Brian Long!
Very cool to have them all together on one machine
ReplyDeleteDid you install them by hand or by script?
ReplyDeleteVincent Parrett The PATH is certainly trashed.. After all installs were over, I reset the path to normal Windows elements plus D10 Seattle's paths. The current model of Delphi installs should be redone. The BIN paths are shortened in my installs (C:\Dev\DXE8\bin;C:\Dev\DXE8\bin64;) but even so, Delphi adds the BPL folders (C:\Users\Public\Documents\Embarcadero\Studio\16.0\Bpl\Win64) There's simply not enough room to hold more than a few Delphi installs (let alone any other program that sets custom Path entries.) FinalBuilder still seems to work without all the paths set, so I'm good. : }
ReplyDeleteBaoquan Zuo All installed by hand.. it took a while for sure, but I didn't watch the progress bar all day. (Ok, I did see my fair share of slow horizontal progress...)
ReplyDeleteThomas Mueller Now I have Delphi 2006 installed... as well as Delphi 1 in a Win2k VM. Just downloaded TP5.5 from http://edn.embarcadero.com/article/20803. This also looks interesting: http://sourceforge.net/projects/turbopascal7/ (Supposed to install on later versions of Windows)
ReplyDeleteA Turbo Pascal installer for Windows? Installing DOSbox and Turbo Pascal? On SourceForge? That can't be legal.
ReplyDeleteNice. Why did he do that? Because he can... :-)
ReplyDeleteMarian Schmöker Exactly! : )
