Hello folks

Hello folks,

I need a book which covers the CURRENT DataSnap technology.
And if this is possible - fully!
Or... books for Delphi which cover this technology too.

I want to know about the security, how to make a custom filters, how to exchange keys or use the roles... the techniques and examples. Just everything.
The examples and the YouTube videos... they are ok but not enough.

Is there something like this on the market?
Online courses?
Does anyone know something?

  1. Neal Campbell Yep but it is only up to XE2.

  2. Dany Marmur I want to be customer of the technology which knows and use the advanced techniques. Fast and secure - to make money for my family. I don't want to be advanced explorer of this technology - just no time for that. And... this is not so good practice - maybe you are on the guru level but whether all we are at this level?
If we do not understand something from the source and after that someone lose money because of that?
No, no - I'm good in one direction - you are good in other direction... Just no time for all directions.

  3. Dobrin Petkov you misunderstood. I completely agree with your sentiment. This is exactly what I pay for when I subscribe to 3rd party stuff. I do completely get what your about.

What i wanted to say was my experience with DS is that it is not that kind of product. And you will get into corners. Do not use it without sources. It was meant as a warning.

  4. And that is why I prefer 3rd party against for example paying emba for enterprise. If i choose my vendors, they do not only fix bugs that I find, but they sometimes help me with the learning curve for new tech/apis/idioms. IBO, RTC, madexept and even DX (*).

  5. Dany Marmur Well this is your choice - I think that Emb help is good and if the feedback is more serious the next time the help level will be better.
The number of the directions which they want to cover is too big and will increase. This will slow the tempo by the rules of the probability theory if they don't change something in the support.
Extensive growing or intensive growing - that is the question?
And why not more and different levels of the help.

  6. Dany Marmur I'm sorry - I haven't read all of your messages from you. You are right for the 3rd party tools but I want to raise some questions internally in the Emb.
Is there a need for change in the support or not? Maybe the videos are good idea but this is just not enough...
And... of course if there no such books - let someone to write a book :)
Why not - externally from the Embarcadero?

  7. No, Dobrin Petkov  i'm the one to apologize.  I took the jovial tone of this forum and typed too fast. I was trying to be ironic.

Following rant might be irrelevant to you OP.

I have never experienced anything more advanced than the demos regarding the technologies from CG/Emba/etc. Every presentation i have attended (granted they are few) didn't give me much.

The key point nowadays when i choose a 3rd party library is the forum support. I have learned a lot in the best ones. In these new subscription-times i see that i may have some support included. I'm having a hard time imagining it would be more efficient than posting here.

Even DevExpress do these things at an ok level (it's a bigger vendor than for example RTC or IBO). One thing i love about the Delphi ecology is that it's almost always possible to have the sources. Maybe other ecologies are catching up, i don't know enough to say. In the JS world everything seems to be sources (lol).

My experiance with DS; I went to a presentation. When i purchased XE2 i purchased enteprise. Today i have a Professional license and 3rd party licenses at approximately the same cost.

One project is still locked into XE2 and DS and the client do not want to pay for a migration. Back then there was two showstoppers, one concerning the encoding used when the js-files are generated and one concerning the inability to change the METHOD to OPTIONS without patching the sources.
