Hey guys

Hey guys,

http://www.infoworld.com/article/3051066/application-development/microsoft-c-visual-basic-are-now-set-to-diverge.html

This is why I think Embarcadero should keep the current 6 months cycle release, new features in C# are being introduced more quickly, C#6 was released last year and C#7 is already around the corner.
I very appreciate the idea about new features get released as soon as possible, it makes the language and IDE always competitive and renews/improves the costumer experience with the whole product. It is not about the current quality of the product, I love Delphi and RAD Studio, I have a lot a fun just seeing the RAD Studio's splash screen popping up :D

  1. It would be much better, when new features are implemented, that they are working properly. It's frustrating using featuers, which are working just the have way. I just think back to D2009, where Generics and Annonymos methods where introduced. It took 3 releases (1 year cycle) to make them proper working. The same with FMX or Castalia, ...

Not sure if a short release cycle makes thinks better.

  2. This made me chuckle:

"Also scheduled for C# 7 is a local functions capability, for writing helper functions inside other functions. With this feature, Torgersen said developers could “structure your code like JavaScript.”"

Markus Ja Features implemented in C# usually do work. But keep in mind that probably more people are working on these features alone (including the community which usually is not bickering about these new features and how they are not needed and stuff) than the entire R&D of EMBT has.

  3. Stefan Glienke Just to add to what you said.

Markus Ja The .Net compiler is now open source, so anybody can contribute to the C# language. But, still keep in mind that those language features that are contributed need to follow a certain guideline for contribution and they are reviewed by Microsoft, before being accepted and approved. And, they also have a list of feature requests and bugs that people can work on.

  4. VB is a pointless language in my opinion.   Even as a PASCAL fan, I have to say the pace of innovation on C# and Visual Studio is so high, and the price of VS and C# is so low (community is free, xamarin is free), that I think Embarcadero product management needs to realign its plan to fit the new reality.     Big Delphi fans like me want to see something happen that we can cheer about.  Right now the momentum is not there.
