After several days after switching it's clear that Delphi Berlin is useless for us without IDE FIX. As we have fairly large projects, without that fix IDE literally hangs. Embarcadero is doing very little with this problem for years. Marco Cantù is that any chance for fixing that?

I have quite fast machine with multiple cores and Xeon processors, SSD drives etc. One would say it's one of the fastest workstations you can get.

Example:
Delphi Berlin - Starting compilation (F9) takes forever about 1 minute where Delphi Seattle with IDE FIX starts almost immediately (!).

This is really productivity killer. While build of 3.5 MLOC takes about 1:21 which is not so bad. With IDE FIX it takes 0:45 which is half of the time.

Anybody else is running into such issues? Is there any chance new IDE FIX will come out?

Most welcome would be fixing this finally in the IDE.

  1. Andreas Hausladen I think because IDE FIX is your product, you are the only one who can say anything about that topic.

  2. Why isn't this ide fix pack integrated to the ide?

  3. Andy indicated that he may discontinue his subscription ( https://twitter.com/AndyHTech/status/690573067790204928 ), but I have not heard that he did actually discontinued the subscription. That means that there is a chance that he will take the time to port IDE Fix Pack to 10.1 Berlin and does release it someday. Just be patient.

It is Embarcadero's duty to deliver a stable and fast IDE, the users do not care who fixes there IDE issues for them and that you do not forget about that it is not bad that there is still no IDE Fix Pack.

Bora Aydemir IDE Fix Pack patches are different from patches that Andy would make if he could change and recompile the actual code of the compiler and IDE. Furthermore the guys at Embarcadero have egos and there egos are big. Almost all R&D engineers that were open to our patches and suggestions have left Embarcadero years ago. Another thing is that once a fix have been applied to the actual code it cannot be removed and Embarcadero is then responsible for it. With IDE Fix Pack you can disable every single patch if it does cause any harm and that is something that actually happens. Even Andy does make mistakes.

  4. There are two things I must have before switching to a new version of Delphi: Spring4D and IDE fix pack

  5. Uwe Schuster I can understand the ego thing. But it is 90's attitude. We are living in the open source era where everyone should be humble enough to learn from others.

  6. Andreas Hausladen should be a MVP where he gets free Delphi version updates

  7. Brian Hamilton IIRC, he refused to became one.

  8. >Even Andy does make mistakes.

True but he is fairly fast on fixing them too! :-)

  9. Why cannot EMB incorporate the fixes from Andrea in the standard IDE?

  11. He just released a jedi Berlin release. So he owns the Berlin edition.

  12. We gave up using Delphi Seattle after first trying it without IDE FIX.

Our 1,000,000 line app compiled way too slowly. 25 seconds vs 4 with the fix.

Now, we won't event think about Delphi upgrades until after IDE FIX becomes available.

It's a little scary basing our business on a product that is virtually unusable (and certainly not competitive) until a third party releases a patch for it.

I encourage anyone who feels this way to post here or let Idera or EMB know directly how you feel.

Whether its economic or technical reasons, they need to do whatever it takes to incorporate IDE FIX into the core product.

    Sadly shaking my head.

  13. What does Andy's Fix does that out-of-box Delphi IDE does not? I have used IDEFix and I think that EMB could learn from him, am I very naive here?

  14. IDE fix makes Delphi usable for projects larger than 1 million lines of code. Which is not so hard to create if you use some libraries and have complex UI.

  15. I feel cognitive dissonance when I read "Inspire. Develop. Excel" post by David Intersimone and see no efforts to fix issues for years. I'm very glad that "out of memory" (after several years) problem went away but still see issues fixed by IDE FIX pack a real deal breaker. I really would like to see any reaction from Embarcadero to this. Of course our products evolve, we dropped C++ builder, than we stopped creating UI in VCL (we still have legacy code). We never jumped into FMX (guess why). So what's next step we should do?

  16. Yes, i start migrating our code today and very very disappointed. Coming from XE5 is a incredible down step. very sad.
