Im the only one feeling Delphi 10.1 IDE slow in extreme? Even one click on Tools option takes 20 seconds sometimes. Im just start using it, coming from delphi XE5 and compared one by one 10.1 is unusable. Please share any tips to speed this thing! Im searching how to disable castalia to start with something.

Solved: After a lot of work and investigation i find the problem was some "incompatible option" on dproj file. That opens and work ok until Seattle but ruin berlin every time. I delete dproj file, let Berlin create it and populate all the setup and it works fine now. Still take a 20 seconds to start building but is a minor problem. Thanks to all for the help!

Delphi 10.1 in my machine has the same performance, if not better, than 10 Seattle. Maybe a 3rd party package or plugin?
ReplyDeleteIm using the same libraries than xe5.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Alexandre Machado 10.1 appears better than 10.0 in usability speed.
ReplyDeleteI don't use 10. I'm comparing with XE5 people. Read my comments. And btw compared to XE5 it sucks. Maybe because no Andy speed up? I don't know but is a real show stopper for me. I think will not renew my SA if I don't see a fix soon.
ReplyDeleteFor me Delphi Berlin is faster than previous versions. Faster than XE5? Unknown.
ReplyDeleteI haven't noticed any significant speed difference between the XE versions and 10 / 10.1 IDEs. But I haven't used 10.1 for a longer time yet, just to get my projects to compile with it and test them afterwards.
ReplyDeleteperhaps some av or windows defender is slowing down your system for some reason?
ReplyDeletei had to disable windows defender, because as soon as i had 3 VMs open, some of them started to freeze for long periods of time, 10+ min; after i disabled it, 5 VMs no problem.

ReplyDeleteI know you are comparing to XE5. I have used them all and my preferred was XE5 before Delphi 10 Seattle. Believe me, XE5 is not faster than Delphi 10 and 10.1. I think there must be something wrong in your case...
ReplyDelete10.1 is barely usable when working with livebindings... Ide is sucking all CPU and is freezing for seconds...I'm eagerly waiting for an update
ReplyDeleteDoes anybody know if Andy has a plan for a version of IDE Fix Pack for Berlin ?
ReplyDeleteUse Process Explorer to see what thread / dll / bpl is causing the slowdown
ReplyDeleteusing XE7 here, but these came with windows 10: windows defender now gets 14% of my 8-core for 30-40 seconds each time I click on any executable protected with WinLicense, even with Taggant; and that MS spyware (can't disable on Insider Preview) gets another 15%.
ReplyDeleteHallvard Vassbotn Sorry friend i really have no time to debug the tool i need to debug my apps. What may i do after that? Charge to EMB the hours?
ReplyDeleteOk, i disable all the stuff: defender, microsoft antispyware service and sometimes the speed is better and sometimes only the RAD open get the time of one CPU (50% time, is a VM with 2 cpus). Thanks for the tips, the time too answer but i already spend a full day to make it cr*p usable. I will stay on XE5 and wait for a miracle (andy speed up or EMB fix) to try it again. If nothing happens before my SA die, i will let it die.
ReplyDeleteMichael Thuma Seattle is faster? maybe i must test this. regarding the other comments i was developing in VMs fro ten years so, thats is not the problem. Im using the same third party libraries : no problem there either. I will check installing D10.1 on Win7 and comment. In process. I can try Seattle also, btw.
ReplyDeleteSeems to happen only with big(?) projects. Just open that stuff and cpu goes 100%, CASTALIA related probably but now i have no idea how to disable in 10.1 IDE. Same behavior on W7 and W10. Very sad to paid for this. Remember me Delphi 8 (money wasted).
ReplyDeleteOne of the things Berlin is slower at is doing searches if you don't precompile the project.
ReplyDeleteLance Rasmussen how to precompile? Im opening the project for first time on Berlin.
ReplyDeleteGerman Gentile build all
ReplyDeleteI do build all and hangs forever. I wait 40 minutes for it and nothing happens...
ReplyDeleteI mean don't even start the build process.
ReplyDeleteForms seem to take longer to open in comparison to Seattle and earlier. Could be the new form container for undocked forms. I've never had build all take that long. I've got a number of 3rd party components and about 1.2-1.3 million lines of code in the project.
ReplyDeleteLance Rasmussen yes seems like have bad luck. The strange part is ok with the same components on xe5 and Seattle
ReplyDeleteBerlin starts and compiles slightly faster than Seattle, and the IDE has so far not showed me any places of slow down. Do you have an invalid path entry in the OS, or in Options, or in the project?
