it doesn't look like Idera has no plans for the development tools sector.

  1. Huh, interesting. They acquired the whole company. Now they have CodeSite and SmartInspect.

  2. A testing suite is something Gartner has complained that Embarcadero didn't have. Now they do.

  3. Nice double negative, by the way, Fred Ahrens. ;-)

  4. The plot thickens.

I wonder if any independent Delphi tool vendors will be left when the dust settles... on the one hand it shows interest on the part of IDERA, on the other hand, having everything under a single corporate umbrella usually spells medium term trouble for a sector.

We will see if TMS is next...

  5. Buying even more of the 3rd party market will really help them in the long term.

  6. This actually sounds like a good move for what ever software Idera is developing.

  7. If Emba want to start writing some tests for their products wouldn't it have been easier to just buy a few licences ........

  8. Maybe because they are going to offer services to other companies outside of Idera? Plus take advantage of tools for internal use?

  9. Delphi has remained interesting in significant part because of the third party component and add-in vendors. As I wrote in another thread, they had to ship (basic) components with Delphi, or there would have been nothing to use in the beginning. But once a third party market began to exist, they needed to foster it, as it was never going to be their primary business. When they start competing with their third party partners, then things get wobbly.

  10. Except that for the price being paid for Delphi, forcing people to have to purchase additional tools to be functional is irritating. Dev Exprress has priced itself out of my reach. There are lots of free tools for Delphi and other languages, are you implying they shouldn't be allowed to contribute because the compete with commercial tools?

  11. The core product Gurock makes is TestRail, and that is not a third-party RAD Studio tool, but a completely separate product. Idera has currently no real plan to expand into the RAD Studio third-party tools business, that was happening under Embarcadero before the acquisition. It is true they also make SmartInspect. And they even still run DelphiFeeds.

I said nothing about what should be allowed, but competing with your tech partners is risky, on many levels, and may or may not yield benefits in the eyes of your customers.

  13. That's interesting development. Some relief and trust restored after this acquisition and Atanas Popov's update after disbanded IDE dev Spanish office.

  14. Right :) And no Marco Cantù's comment on Spanish office issue.

  15. I'd be very surprised if they commented specifically about the Spanish office. HR issues, legality, and all.

  17. can only be for Testrail; Gurok doesn't seem to care much about Smart inspect anymore. Their delay to release SI updates for new Delphi versions is ridiculous.

  18. Radek ÄŒervinka Remembering about old "discussions" between Delphi team and SmartMobileStudio, I highly doubt it may even happen.

  19. At least, they acquire a nice set of products, made by competent people. External acquisition is what occurs when you can't create something new internally... it is the golden rule of all big companies.

  20. A. Bouchez It follows on the specification by the big company of processes which strangle development.

You may not have noticed, but Macro is not the CEO of Emba. So Macro is on no position to comment on the Spanish office.

  23. Bill Meyer like back when we were still active partners wit Embarcadero, and we constantly got told that if we wanted to be good partners, we should not be offering Data Abstract...
