  1. Kewl. Have you tested on a large and complex application? :)

  2. be nice to know when MS will allow these apps in their store

  3. Brian Hamilton Nope, only done test on a trivial project so far, but Microsoft has specific indications of what will or won't work, and most Delphi apps should be fine.
Brett Wilton Absolutely. They promised it, hope they don't change their mind.

  4. Brett Wilton Since yesterday August 02, 2016. Also, the Desktop Bridge framework is only available with Windows 10 Anniversary Update, which was released yesterday, as well. It's all in the announcement: https://blogs.windows.com/buildingapps/2016/08/02/windows-10-anniversary-update-sdk-14393/

  5. Brian Hamilton Here's the info on MSDN, that Marco Cantù mentioned: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows/uwp/porting/desktop-to-uwp-root

Also, Microsoft tested it with multiple applications(i.e.: Microsoft Office for desktop and SAGE accounting).

  6. re from link above
"Your app writes to the install directory for your app. For example, your app writes to a log file that you put in the same directory as your exe. This isn't supported, so you'll need to find another location, like the local app data store." is this in reference to the installation process or when running the actual program?

  7. Marco Cantù From the blog:
"[...] and we are planning to add specific support to simplify APPX deployment to the IDE in Berlin 10.1 Update 2, along with other new Windows 10 related features."

Good to know that there will be an Update 2 for Berlin. Did I miss Update 1?

  8. Brian Hamilton The way I read it is that they are simply reinforcing that your application cannot run in full trust mode. And, that your application cannot create/write to a file that is expected to be located in the same folder as the executable of your application. This currently isn't supported for applications that are installed in the "C:\Program Files" or "C:\Program Files (x86)" folders, unless the application is "Run as Administrator". And I do know that some developers were simply circumventing that restriction by installing the application somewhere else, than within those folders, but this isn't possible with the Desktop Bridge Windows App Store distribution model.

  9. Achim Kalwa No, you didn't miss anything. Update 1 is in testing, Update 2 is in development, and so it Godzilla. No ETA, other than "when ready and fully tested".

  10. Daniel Rail ..oh..I see..I have my program install to its own directory and create files there.Seems I will be giving this all a miss then ;)
