I can't reach GetIt from my personal machine.

I can't reach GetIt from my personal machine.

My work machine? No problem.

But with my personal machine, it times out every time.

Searched for differences, but I haven't found anything significant other than my work machine is Seattle only and my personal machine is Berlin only.

I've checked my proxy settings. I've poked all around my network settings. Everything seems in order.

Anyone have any ideas what is blocking me?

  1. ... from home or from work. With VPN on from locations all around the world -- nothing works.

But I stress it works fine on my work machine. It's something on this personal machine that is not working right.

  2. Same here, it has been about 1 month, since the last time it has worked, from home or work

  3. When things get weird in a TCP/IP way, install and run Wirewshark.  You can see exactly why your connection was refused.  It may be a misguided Anti-virus/Firewall, your ISP or a bad DNS configuration. Wireshark is an open source/free TCP/IP packet sniffer.  I use it for all of my TCP/IP project development in Delphi.  Any competent network guy or gal can interpret the packet sniff files and let you know what the problem is.

  4. Works for me. Berlin 10.1 on subscription. Just installed the Chrometabs component.
    (Windows 8.1 64-bit enterprise)

  5. Kevin McCoy WireShark is awesome. I've hunted down dozens of things with it.

  6. I get "Invalid class typcast" every time I run GetIt. Though it would be fixed when I installed 10.1 Berlin, but no :-(

  7. Same here, I have both Seattle and Berlin on my machine and in Berlin GetIt is stuck on "Searching...." and after some long period "The Embarcadero GetIt server could not be reached... Error sending data: (12002) The operation timed out"

  8. How strange that it still works for me!
Stefan Glienke - which component did you try?

  9. Attila Kovacs Wireshark uses WinPCap to gather packet sniff data and then interprets the packet contents into something human readable.. Wireshark supports about 100 protocols.

Btw, GetIt works great for me.  I have installed many components in both Seattle and Berlin without problems.  I did have a problem with Win10 security once.  I had to run the IDE as Administrator to complete a GetIt installation.  Once the package was installed, I could revert back to normal user mode in Windows.

  10. Lars Fosdal No component, I opened GetIt...

  11. Attila Kovacs Not sure what you mean by QCT, sorry. I was asking for a QP report - I haven't heard of that bug, and it would be nice to get a report so we can try to reproduce it.

  12. David Millington But it is now :-)

  13. This is rather odd. For those who uses the beta, there might be some older configurations pending around (although I was pretty sure this wasn't the case)

  14. But you might want to check if under BDS/18.0/CatalogRepository there is a ServiceUrl key. That might point to a now defunct GetIt server...

Other than that, and the bug that was affecting 10 Seattle downloads (a permission error when downloading) I've been using it consistently and have seen no issue

  15. Marco Cantù Boom, that was it, thanks! :)

  16. Marco Cantù It resolves to 204.216.225.163

    The tracert always stalls at:

    204-216-1-86.scca.navisite.net [204.216.1.86]

  17. Stefan Glienke It might be a beta or some older config has a left over settings. A months ago some GetIt machines where physically moved and got new IPs, and that would explain how some people started to get issues

  18. Marco Cantù setting ServiceUrl key to getit.embarcadero.com make it works, thank you.

  19. Nick Hodges The IP seems correct. Navisite is also correct. The server is protected, so not sure if there is a specific reason for the behavior... but it does seem odd. We'll try to let IT investigate.

  20. Cesar Romero Good to know. If the key is not present (it is not by default) is uses that value. It is used by us internally for configuration and testing, but was used for betas (using a different server). I didn't know it.

  21. I don't have a solution, but I'd like to suggest that this bug be dubbed "The Berlin Wall"....

  22. If your work machine use a different ISP/DNS that your home machine:

Try to use another DNS , I have the very same issue at home but not at work where I have our own DNS server.

Maybe google's public DNS servers can help you 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/, but there are others and my ISP is sometimes crappy.

Don't forget to clean all your temporally files on windows this are a real buggers.
