ReplyDeleteYes, Delphi is a good tool for beginners, in the sense that you get a solid and mature language with relatively few pitfalls. It is, however, quite easy to write crap code in Delphi if you get lost in the RAD part of it, so, like any other tool, it requires a good teacher and some discipline of study, if you want to master it.
Lars Fosdal It's not really a good tool for beginners today, given 1) the cost involved, and 2) the lack of learning materials. You're not going to be able to walk into your local bookstore and buy a "Delphi For Dummies" book off the shelf, nor are you going to be able to participate in a free MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) to learn Delphi. You're also going to be required to use Windows, something a lot of college age or younger people don't do today. No doing it on your iPad or Chromebook (Chromebook recently outsold the Macbook Air thanks to massive educational institution purchases, where they are being rapidly adopted).
