  1. First post about it, was just over a week ago. Scrolling down the feed helps, but posting a good thing one more time, doesn't necessarily hurt :)

  2. Delphi and C++ Builder. And they are not free, you just get them with 100% discount :) And a little bird told me that this will probably stay the same at least to the end of the year.

  3. Sorry for the duplicate. I'll check next time I post something

  4. Just change your point of view: Salvador Díaz Fau said that it is still free

  5. Fabian S. Biehn it mostly means that the "special offer" will end at some point, and the software won't be free anymore. If new developers invest time in learning Delphi, they can't be sure that a free version will be available in the future

If diesel gets a 100% discount, you probably won't sell your gasoline car unless the diesel remains free indefinitely.

  6. What bugs me is not current Free offer (IMO it is a good thing) but the nominal Starter price that is whooping €405.00 Wasn't Starter around 100-150$ before? And as far as I can see only Windows platform is included.

  7. Wouter van Nifterick the diesel comparism dont fit really. Delphi dont "disappear" after usage. Even today you could build great apps with Delphi 7.

  8. Fabian S. Biehn True; you can build great windows 98 era applications with Delphi 7. :-)

My point was: a temporary 100% discount is not going to convince anyone to adapt Delphi as their main development platform.
Knowing that future updates will cost a fortune is going to scare people away.

  9. Wouter van Nifterick oh, you could still build great apps runnign on windows 10 with delphi 7. It is only more difficult than with a modern delphi ide because a lot of features are missing.

Yep, a 100% discount on the starter will not convince a lot of people, but it is a good start!

  10. Dalija Prasnikar You're right; this is bizarre. The price in US dollars was always $199 with a $50 competitive upgrade discount. The crazy thing was that the fine print included free software in the competitive upgrade. In that case, why not have just sold it for $149? I thought it was a $50 "stupid tax" for people who didn't read the fine print and slap Free Pascal on their system to get the discount.

Now before making the starter edition free they've decided to inflate the price and claim you're (in American dollars) saving $282. They also don't list it in the "free tools" menu on top.

It's like even when they try to do the right thing, someone somewhere can't help but feel that they have to trick the customer somehow. :-)

  11. Fabian S. Biehn Those "great apps" are going to look like they belong on Windows 98 and aren't going to take advantage of the look, feel or features of Windows 10 though. For instance, the Windows thumbnail preview isn't going to work, etc.
