You are one unlucky guy... you see those way too often...
ReplyDeleteoff topic: I have to ask, what does 'more than 3 million users worldwide' mean?

ReplyDeleteI used to get these once a month for couple of years. Then suddenly they stopped to happen. At the time the trick was to backup the license folder, so I have setup automatic backup for it now just in case. Usually for me this happened when during build process the rad studio crashed. It was on physical machine, at the time running Win7 later updated to Win 8.1 . It happened on both. Now mysteriously the problem is gone on the same machine...
ReplyDeleteFred Ahrens Maybe you should purchase a legit version ;-)
ReplyDeleteDorin Duminica I don't think an official explanation for how that number was derived exists
ReplyDeleteRichard Baroniunas It's a normal Windows 10 Enterprise Ed., all updates installed, non-Insider, Delphi 10.1 Berlin Upd. 2 Enterprise. No extra tools installed into the IDE, no extra anti-virus (except Windows Defender). It happens most of the time while the IDE is idle in the background for some minutes. In previous Delphi versions it usually happened when starting the debugger.
ReplyDeleteNicholas Ring There are rumors that non-legit versions don't show this behavior ;) Oh the irony ...
ReplyDeleteFred Ahrens Yes, I have heard such rumours... It nearly makes one go and find a copy.
ReplyDeleteBoian Mitov Thanks for the hint, just backed up the "license" subfolder for my XE4, just in case.
ReplyDeleteRichard Baroniunas Usually I have only the latest Delphi version installed and the programs I use while Delphi is idle are Photoshop, Chrome, Architect (ADS), Outlook, OneNote - sometimes Excel, Word - nothing special.
ReplyDeleteThe main problem is: the license seems to be invalid only for some seconds. The IDE will be closed, the known web site is opened in my browser and then I can start Delphi again without problems. It's only a temporary problem but extremely annoying to get back in the project where I was. Due to frequent saving of my project I lose only a few lines of source code each time and some value changes in Object Inspector. Most of the time I can recover within 5 to 10 minutes. I did also check Event Viewer for suspicious events logged at the same time - nothing.
As posted previously - I would even allow Embarcadero to install some tracking tools or whatever is required to get to the source of this problem.
While writing a plug-in, I found that I could "generate" the licensing issue on demand nearly, until I found an unwanted feature (aka bug), so I suspect that the "feature" was overwriting some part of the memory that the license checked and then going kaboom

ReplyDeleteBoian Mitov The last time i installed I had this kind of problem; Please could you tell me where the license folder resides, so I can do the same ... Thanks
ReplyDeleteTony Danby It is in the : "C:\Users\All Users\Embarcadero" folder. I just copy the whole folder to be safe ;-)
