So my WordPress blog seems to only get spam these days with most people choosing to comment on a blog posts either here in G+ or in Slack when I re-post in either.

Should I close the commenting in WordPress and just use comments here in G+ or slack or keep the WordPress commenting open?

I have been using the "Stop Spammers" plugin, combined with locking comments on older posts to reduce the spam surface.
ReplyDeleteAkismet works but needs maintenance (checking your spam folder regularly), as it regularly gets worked around by spammers.
G+ comments are nice for immediate feedback, but they are basically a black hole as far as history or searching goes.
WP-reCAPTCHA comes recommended, as does WordPress Hashcash, I have no SPAM ever. I also recommend Securi if you are self-hosting.
ReplyDeleteWith my WordPress.com subscription comes "Akismet Advanced anti-spam security." which works very well. Hardly any SPAM at all.
