Are programmers out there using Advantage Database Server?

We are using it since 18 years but since it is "SAP" we got problems with devzone with downloads ... and and and.

Our mainapplication database has > 250 tables + a lot views etc.

Someone having experience for migrating away from advantage database server to another provider?

  1. Stéphane Wierzbicki have you used migration tools to switch from advantagedatabase to postgreSQL ?

  2. Yusuf Zorlu I did this some years ago. Tools were written in Delphi (I don't own them anymore as the Firm did bankrupt)

First we have created the same tables with the same fields, keys, same contrains and so on.

We have then exported all ADS data into xls files and imported them into psorgresql tables.

We did it once for our in house software, about 10 years ago when Firedac wasn't available. I'm sure this is doable with Firedac + XML or JSon output format !

  3. After some tests PostgreSQL is looking not too bad also with pessimistic locking on recordlevel with firedac components. Next step would be to create sql-script from our entire database and import them into different database-systems and test the whole software with firedac components.

Can someone give me a hint, what's todays best practice to create sql-scripts to recreate a complete database? Marco Cantù  Is there something in firedac which can help us?
