Hello guys

Hello guys,

Is there a way to move a Delphi installation from a HDD to a new SSD?

Thanks in advance :)

  1. Using an image copy program, you can move an existing Windows installation from a HDD to an SSD, including all installed programs. I did that a few months ago, using CloneZilla. You should first reduce the partition on the HDD to the required minimum and later change it to the desired size on the SSD in order to not write too many unnecessary sectors. (CloneZilla supposedly only copies the used sectors, other imaging programs may work differently.)
Btw. with the same method you can move it into a virtual machine (Windows 8 and later, I don't know about Windows 7.)

  2. The HDD image, yes. Just Delphi? Not really.

  3. There used to be a program that did that sort of thing. Microsoft bought them.

  4. My SSD (Samsung) came with software for moving all data from my HDD to the SSD -- it worked like a charm! There's other similar software you can use -- I like CloneZilla (open source, linux-based). It does require that you have a way to connect the SSD and HDD to the PC at the same time -- I just got a USB-SATA cable.

  5. Scott Pinkham CloneZilla does not require you to connect both to the computer at the same time. You can first create an image and then write that to the SSD.

  6. Thomas Mueller Correct -- I meant to say that the Samsung software requires both connected.
