    Stefan Glienke Oh that is very cool. We don't have that in South Africa. You have to work your butt off if you want to get a job right out of high school without going to university or college.

    Some of the best programmers I know, have no formal education. Some are born to code, and become good at it because they are driven to code. If you have that drive, you may be lucky and get a job.

    Most developer jobs still go to people that are educated and driven, so my advice would be to get a proper college education and perhaps even go on to grow your skills at a university.

    Being a good software developer requires much more than just being good at wrangling code.

    Lars Fosdal Yes I agree. I'm currently studying and working at the same time and that is what I would suggest to everyone. You should find a job right out of high school, but then also go to university or college. Do them both.
