We tried AutoIT but it had some problems and way too technical.

I would guess that if it would be commercial product, price should be pretty moderate and licensing model fair anyways (). Free and/or open source projects would be preferable.

  1. I worked for a couple of years in a shop which used TestComplete, I think. Our app was big, and the performance poor, and the testing took 24 hours.

I think that Arnaud's advice is excellent. I understand that making the change in a large project is a daunting task, but if you have large blocks of logic in forms, you are asking for trouble.

Use the automated testing, by all means, but start revising your approach.

  2. Malcolm Kudra I have messaged a former colleague about the test suite used. I left there 7 years ago, and have not looked back, and was not directly in contact with the test tools, anyway.

My former colleague came up empty. We're too old to remember all this stuff. ;)

  3. Problem with AutoIT would be that maintaining person most likely should be programmer. Have not tried Sikuli, which has different Approach. TestComplete seems maybe best, but initial investment is pretty hefty.

    Tough call...
