Bigger fish eats smaller fish.

Did anyone notice this acquisition, end of May?
Any idea what company, referred to in the post, that Idera recently acquired themselves?

  1. Desktop: Windows 8.0, Windows 8.1, and even Windows 10 - where features are removed, subscriptions are forced, device controls locked out, data collection mandatory, user interfaces ruined, etc.
Mobile: You said it, but they might actually stand a chance there later this year, if they figure they can ship Desktop Windows on mobile devices using Qualcomm's new chips that can emulate x86 with great performance (Intel threatened a suit, though).
Online: Do people use the Microsoft stack for anything anymore, or do they use alternatives - of which there are plentiful?

  2. InstallAware Software the company that I'm working for have decided to use Azure for their Saas solution. Having worked with AWS in my previous contract and I was very sceptical/reluctant to even consider working in a Microsoft technology. But I'm starting to see some interesting choices that Microsoft have made; Service Fabric that is cross platform, Linux instances, Docker containers, MVC Core that is cross platform, SQL Server 2017 that is cross platform, Visual Studio Core that is cross platform, Python as a first class language in Visual Studio and open sourcing of key products.

  3. David Champion That does sound nice. If they stop screwing Desktop Windows and actually ship it as a bona-fide Mobile platform later this year, they might get something right after all.
