So the two primary development tools of our small team (Delphi and Ext JS) come together under one roof. While I don't know if or how they will combine or integrate, this is in any case a very interesting and remarkable occurrence. I wonder how this will influence - hopefully positively - the future of Delphi and Ext JS.

  1. And here the press release attached to above email:

"IDERA, Inc. Acquires Sencha to Strengthen Developer Tools Business

Austin, Texas – August, 2017 IDERA, Inc., the leading provider of database, development, and test management tools, today announced an agreement to acquire Sencha, a leading web application development platform. Sencha will be integrated with Embarcadero, IDERA, Inc.’s developer tools division.

Sencha’s Web Application Development Platform empowers companies to seamlessly design, develop and test feature-rich, cross-platform web applications for desktops, tablets and smartphones. In recent studies, customers using Sencha’s full-stack enterprise solution were up to 50 percent more productive than those using other web application frameworks.

“Sencha’s focus on reducing cost and complexity to develop and deliver web applications is a powerful fit with our development tools business,” said Randy Jacops, CEO of IDERA, Inc. “We are very excited about this space and expect to continue to improve and invest in our developer tools capability.”

Sencha’s web application development tools power thousands of data-intensive web applications around the world, including 60 percent of the Fortune 100 companies. The company continues to innovate, recently delivering the much-anticipated Sencha Ext JS 6.5 and ExtReact for adding powerful UI components to React applications.

Sencha’s industry accolades include being named a winner in the User Experience category for the 2017 SD Times 100 Awards, and a CODiE Award finalist in the “Best Mobile Development Solution” for Sencha Ext JS.

“Sencha matches our mission to deliver agile development tools to our growing global community of developers,” said Atanas Popov, General Manager of Embarcadero. “It broadens the languages we support by adding JavaScript, and delivers broad synergies with our existing product portfolio. For example, Sencha Ext JS will provide a powerful Web Framework for Embarcadero’s RAD Studio to complement our native frameworks, including VCL for Windows and FMX for Mobile.”

“We believe joining the IDERA developer tools family will enhance Sencha’s R&D and go-to-market capabilities,” said Art Landro, CEO of Sencha. “This is a logical step in our efforts to continue opening our product frameworks by making them interoperable with new technologies to maximize customer value.”

  2. If this ups the price of Delphi and subscriptions again, I question the sanity of the product management people.

  3. Sencha's top offering is $9,190 so there's that.

    Goodbuy UniGUI?

  5. Lars Fosdal Sencha was targeting the enterprise market. That's why prices are high. Also take it into consideration that license is valid for upto 5 developers.

  6. Perhaps the preparation for the research area point of the roadmap: "Tools for building Web clients" with the copybook of Farshad Mohajeri tool or a buy out of it.

  7. Farshad Mohajeri It maybe looks natural now that Idera seeks to acquire UniGui as well?

  8. Wagner Landgraf Because that means no raspberry pi support for Unigui until EMB release a compiler for RPI, nobody knows when will hapens. Also bad news because any chance of Unigui be compatible with FPC /lazarus will be killed for that adquisition.

  9. Олег Агафонов Buying Sencha might be one step on the way to buy uniGUI. At the end it could be cheaper for Embarcadero to buy Sencha instead of buying the required OEM licenses from Sencha.
Actually I would be surprised if uniGUI wouldn't be part of this deal as it would be quite hard to create a new uniGUI competitor from scratch with the same feature set and especially the stability that uniGUI already provides.

  10. Marco Cantù, when can we learn more about this? A statement about IDERA Software's plans how to bring together Delphi and Ext JS would be most welcome.

  12. Gerhard Venter For the time being nothing has changed for us. We continue to remain dedicated to our roadmap, future plans and other tasks. Actually, it was a big surprise for us. No one could imagine that Idera will acquire Sencha! Certainly uniGUI has played a big role to show how Ext JS and Delphi can interplay with each other seamlessly. It can be said that Idera became aware of Sencha through uniGUI.

  14. Sencha was evaluated long long time ago to become the library to use in HTML5 Builder (Delphi for PHP at that time). And unfortunately we didn't reach an agreement as I think it would have been great. Of course, no Angular no React existed then. The rest is history 😄 On the other hand, not sure at this time it makes a lot of sense with Angular and React in the market. Don't want to start a discussion about which is the best library or something similar, just to highlight that Sencha was in the radar long time ago.
