Hi, I have to start a project for a customer that requires me a new android app, but I've read here that there are some issues with Tokyo. Particularly, i need to send and recive sms to comunicate with some alarm devices. Before starting, I would like to know what do you think about. Is Tokyo so useless to develop android app?

  1. I see that one. I fail to see how that would be a better solution than Delphi though. They have a similar strategy. Mike is referring to the Java available through Android Studio because he has had success with Android Studio and native UIs.

  2. Eli M my reply was tongue in cheek because while Fmx claims to have one ui for all platforms that behaves “the same” it’s far from the case. I can say this after making a pretty serious attempt at using it to target iOS, Mac OS, and windows .

I suppose if I had to target android too I’d try to tough it out with Delphi but st this point I’d prolly go with web and/or react native or NativeScript.

I’m supporting iOS and Mac with one swift code base with some different controller code and Delphi VCL for windows. I got a pretty good amount of reuse out of the swift code.

  3. Eli M The whole java ecosystem is a huge plus, you can find free open source high quality libraries for almost anything. Java is much more cross platform than Delphi IMO.
