Better develop in a 64 bits machine?

Better develop in a 64 bits machine?

I want to install the new 10.2.2 release of Delphi in a new Virtual Machine. I need to create this new machine and I'm thinking about creating an instance of a 64bits Windows 10.

Any trouble about this election?
Do all of you compile exclusively for 64bits Windows?
Any suggestion, hint or consideration about this?

Thank's all!

  1. I create 64-bit VMs for Virtual Box. The IDE is still 32 bit as are a lot of applications. I have not had specific problems but the latest IDE is Berlin for me. When you buy a new lap-top it comes with 64-bit windows so why would you run 32-bit in a VM?

  2. I've personally used 64-bit Windows on my own dev machines and VMs for about ten years now, since Vista. I don't see any point in creating a new 32bit machine or image unless you specifically need it to test 32bit support.

  3. Attila Kovacs Of course, I can build 64bit exe's under 32 bit windows, but I can't run it.

    Thank's for the hint, Attila.

  4. I have a Win10x64 in VMWare VM, working with Tokyo 10.2.1 (not upgraded yet), building x32 and x64 apps.
No problems for now except AV's (my mistakes or bugs).

  5. Yup! 64-bit OS for host/guest. I use Hyper-V under Windows 10. You won't get any performance increase from Delphi running under a 64-guest.. shoot, I could be wrong, but you might get less performance running 32-bit guest under 64-bit, as there are instruction set transformations? I could be wrong though.
