I've just installed it on a laptop with existing 10.2.1 and all works fine. Previous release had problems with my Oracle 3rd party components, but this works fine.
Olos Nah yes let's the numbers talk, but which numbers? I see 40 bugs reported against 10.2.2 in quality portal, some of them are for third party components compatibility (so they are technically closed). And not all mayor.
Our standard rate is 8 to 10 bugs reported every day during a year, so we are about at the same rate. Generally post release we get a spike, that's normal.

For this one, I've seen reports that the keyboard rect returned is closer to being correct, but is still out by 25 pixels. I'm yet to look at this myself.
One very serious one (Android again) introduced (but can be worked around):
My renewal is due in Mar 2018, I can't decide if it's worth it. I went from XE2 to 10.2, which required another $1.5k in component updates. I know it's easy to complain about known bugs... but I'm just not sure VCL is a first-class citizen.
John Kouraklis hmmm.. I wonder what state FMX for Win is vs VCL.. it's a really new framework in comparison, and I feel like I'd just be going back to the 2000s if I switched.
Luis Madaleno Build 2004 is working great here. Just uninstalled the previous 10.2.2, didn't remove the Registry Entries, installed Build 2004. All my originally installed components are still there, didn't need to reinstall them (Jedi, LMD, Konopka, ICS, madExcept, SecureBlackBox, SvCom, TMS WebUpdate, CodeSite). Full Build, no issues.
Although I'm aware that every software has bugs, but 8 to 10 bugs a day in a tool, which costs about $3k is somewhat discouraging.
Moreover, I cannot put my finger on how it is possible that severe bugs are discovered in the projects, which you supply as Samples in every release. Shouldn't these projects be tested in the first hand with every new version?
Maybe if one develops for Win32, everything is not so bad, but it seems that there are quite some developers using FMX to build cross platform mobile apps and they happen to be stuck with Berlin (meaning being stuck with outdated tool-chain) since it is hard to release an app where a keyboard is covering controls on the screen or AdHoc configuration is broken.
I can agree that complaining is the easiest of jobs, but I guess it is everyone's interest to have the tools of the best quality to build the best software. Have you considered any ways to improve the stability of the new releases? Perhaps the community can engage by signing up for some kind of open beta test before release?
Embarcadero's price policy is also terrible. My subscription ended in September and it was €365 to renew Delphi PRO. I didn't renew due to poor quality of the product. If I want to renew now I have to pay €403 to reinstate and another €403 for the renewal itself. Awesome, right? If DevExpress or TMS did the same they had no customers by now.

ReplyDeleteIt appears to work with TMS Component Pack and Eurekalog. I've won't have time to do further testing until next year.
ReplyDeleteLet the numbers talk: 6 days since release -> 65 major defects reported.

ReplyDeleteOlos Nah God help us all. Just another day at the office then...
ReplyDeleteOn a positive note, I think the IDE is much faster :-)

Marco Cantù The problem is the time we have to wait until Embarcadero fixes those bugs.
ReplyDeleteMajor bugs should be fixed ASAP and they don't.
What I think is wrong is we now have two 10.2.2 versions out there with different build numbers. Why not 10.2.2.1 or 10.2.3?
ReplyDeleteDarian Miller Than is a very reasonable comment

John Kouraklis yes, more reasonable than the original one I started posting... which included some profanity so I deleted that and retyped it. : )
ReplyDeleteThere's at least one (Android) bug that is marked as fixed, but apparently isn't (not properly):

..and some "interesting" code changes that were very obviously not reviewed (or at least, not properly).
Olos Nah To be fair, that number probably contains a number of duplicates (esp of RSP-19525) and some that would have been resolved in build 2004.

ReplyDeleteVin Colgin I only use FMX despite the bugs and some performance issues
