Just got an email stating "For developers using versions prior to XE7, please contact sales to take advantage of our amnesty offer to allow everyone to use the latest version and gain the benefits of Update Subscription."

As if they're suggesting anyone using an older version of Delphi is somehow committing a crime, and form the goodness of their hearts, EMBA are pardoning us. Sheessh.

  1. I made similar marketing campaigns in the past and this was the reasoning why everybody was in the same email batch:
    - good offer for all trial and evaluation licensees
    - current licensees might increase license count or upgrade all old licenses
    - for some companies emails get changed and some developers use personal emails, so sometimes is hard to know who is who and you just blast everybody, it can't hurt, it's just an email
    - sometimes team managers don't respond or don't see the value of new versions, offers, while developers might (so you blast everybody)
    - and at the end of the day it was part of communication where any email to customers is better than none

But this all changed once I cleaned up the database and now I have much better success with precise targeting and nobody is annoyed.

So, I assume companies doing such email blast have young or inexperienced marketing team, where sending out 100Ks emails trumps higher success rate of small targeted number of email campaigns.

  2. Was this not a third repeat of an offer "never to be repeated"?

I'm with Stefaan Lesage - IMHO, a company that makes database tools should demonstrate that they can effectively use a database.
