  1. Richard B that's a nice spin on things, but the reality is that what became Firebird 3 and the move to a single version slipped about ten years from its original planned release. As a result, despite being a new release, Firebird 3 was still far behind PostgreSQL on release. At times the JDBC driver has lagged behind to the point it stopped working with LibreOffice, etc. Firebird simply has too few developers and users and no real revenue stream to enable it to compete with major RDBMSes.

  2. You are right about that too of course. I don't deny things could have been better in that particular area for sure. I just like to see the silver linings ;-)

  3. Richard B how about this for a silver lining? Firebird 3 has more features than Interbase 2017, and Interbase now costs about $7000 USD for an unlimited user version! :-)
