  1. Bob Swart chose the side of Embarcadero when they chose to change the Delphi Pro EULA to disallow database use. He tweeted "With friends like these..." at Embarcadero about Jolyon Duranko-Smith when Jolyon leaked the EULA change, getting encouragement back from the EMBT account. He's no friend of Delphi users and simply a man who has no other employable skills who would sell us all out to continue eking out a living from Delphi.

  2. There was an attempt to disallow not DB access, but Client-Server projects (e.g. remote DB access via REST/JSON) IIRC with the Delphi Pro branch, in XE3. See blog.synopse.info - Client-Server allowed back to XE3 pro - Synopse
    Anyway, it is not at all relevant to this blog article.

  3. I remember this restriction and I am quite sure the reason it was discontinued is due to the fact that it bordered on a violation of the Sherman Act as anticompetetive, more specifically with dbExpress components, in an attempt to restrict your expression with a license, which is illegal.
