Achim Kalwa It is in features identical to the Pro Edition - so the "restrictions" are commercial and when a year has past you will be reminded to request a new license key - a way to ask you if you still haven't earned more that the 5000 USD limit the CE version is allowed for - I guess. But check the feature matrix and read the EULA.
The only 'crippled' I can critisize is a limitation also present in Profesional edition. It will.not allow firedac to connect to client server databases. But well you can still use 3rd party components for this like kbmmw, unidac or zeos
Francisco Armando Dueñas RodrÃguez there are other things in the Enterprise, but I like FireDAC and it was one thing that currently keeps me maintaining my Ent. license - but if you do customer work, then that fee should be "easily" covered. But the products you mention does a great job - and might even be more specific tuned - like DevArts ODAC - which I was very impressed with when I used them years back.
Marco Cantù Marco about Professional and CE limitation To use Firedac only on localhost.and embedded Databases, does the option to buy FireDAC Client/Server addon pack still available?
Francisco Armando Dueñas RodrÃguez AFAIK, this option has been removed from Pro some weeks ago. There are only Pro, Enterprise and Architect editions - and now Community.
This is great. My employee contract changed this spring to include a note that any software developed using company resources was owned by them. This community edition would allow me to get back into making open-source contributions.
So long overdue.. glad its finally here
ReplyDeleteThat are exciting news! I hope the Community Edition is not short-lived like the "recharge" option.
ReplyDeleteAny crippled features?
