Hi guys!

Hi guys!
gonna try to make this as short as possible, i live in Algeria and i'm studying for a database technician degree, we basically follow an old school curriculum.
I mean we're still studying with Pascal & Delphi.
is delphi still relevant in 2018 ? should i learn other languages?
honestly i'm worried a bit about my future so i'd like to get some advices OVERALL about my studies.

  1. If you do not look at the quality but you look at what you can do, Delphi is great! It's the best tool for windows Desktop so far and it has Firemonkey (a framework) that can create Android/iOS apps with a single codebase

  2. There is no problem with studying with Pascal and Delphi. Even if you choose another languange later. You have to learn how to program and Delphi is doing a good job with it. You have to learn HOW to programming, later you can choose the language WITH you do it.
Is Delphi a new language, is it for hipsters? No. Means that Delphi is a bad language and you harm yourself with studying it? For sure not!
The language is only 1 tool which can be exchanged with something else. Every problem has a fitting solution, so choose the solution that fits (for you) best.

  3. The simplest way to look at this is the actual job market where you are looking to gain employment. You have to look at the locations you intend to work to see what companies requirements are using and then you can use that study that particular language.

Pascal is a beautiful way to learn programming and Delphi is so simple to use that when you use other packages you will see the vast differences.

Good thing is that you are becoming a database technician so based on which database you are looking to work with you need to understand the ins-and-outs of that system.

    Good luck in the future.
